seawinder
Or at least that's what I think they are -- the small pointy things on the underside near the nose and just ahead of the exhaust. Is there any rhyme or reason as to whether or not they are/were present? I'm building a hump-less A-4E, Vietnam circa 1968. The instructions in the AOA decal set show them as being there for the plane I'm doing. AOA apparently is well reputed for accuracy and research, but I'm still wondering when the antennas (if that's what they are) came into use and how consistently. Thanks! a4s4eva
Pretty sure they were for a Radar warning system
11bee
The "pointy" antennas were early jamming systems to provide some protection against SAM-2's. Maybe the ALQ-51 system? I don't recall for sure... The Skyhawk also had radar warning antennas but I think they were in separate housings. I think by 1968, every navy/marine tactical jet flying in SEA would have had these systems fitted but as always, check your references.
