Nathant
I'm currently building Hasegawa's 1 48 Rf-4B kit and as always the instructions are no help. I'm trying to determine if this aircraft has the early or late exhausts and the slotted or non-slotted stabs. Thanks for your help. 2018-12-30 by 2wrenches, on Flickr
phantomdriver
certainly has slotted stabs...
Fiddler
That solid ring in front of the feathers gives it away it's the early style. With the newer style that ring is abscent. Greetings!
Tailspin Turtle
RF-4B BuNo 157346 also had the wing bulges (wider tires) and the angular, not rounded, forward-facing camera fairing. It could have been retrofitted with the -10 engine but Fiddler is right about it having -8 engines in this picture. For a comparison, see http://tailspintopics.blogspot.com/2012/12/j79-exhaust-nozzles.html
Nathant
Thanks everyone! I thought it looked like the early exhausts but then I thought it would be odd to have the upgraded stabs? I also noticed no ECM bump on the vertical tail, and Hasegawa only gives you the insert with the ECM, so I stole one off the Academy kit, but of course it doesn't match up to the Hasegawa tail very well... Also, shouldn't RF-4Bs have the elongated ECM bumps on the intake sides?
