Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

any  SEA camo F-4 pictures out there with black undersurfaces? I know I have seen it somewhere but can’t find it!

I just checked my Squadron Signal "Phantom in Action". It contains a painted profile of "Terrible Tyke", F-4D,  #66-279, of 497th TFSQ "Night Owls" with black undersides.

During WWII, gloss black was found to be less visible under spot lights than flat black. The gloss paint scatters the light. Flat black doesn't and makes the aircraft more visible under a spot light.
