Educate me on all things 1/72 EC-121. Starting point?

Recommended Posts

I'm building two of these. One with the RVHP conversion for the EC-121L Pacific Missile Range bird and another as EC-121K...probably another Pacific Missile Range aircraft.

I know the base kit is Heller and unfortunately I heard about Fisher Models. Any other hints on which boxing and way forward?

Thanks

With the temporary unavailability of the Fisher resin sets you've got a couple of options.

Plus Model out of eastern Europe offers a range of detail parts along with a kit that includes all of their sets along with the original Heller plastic.  The full meal deal is a bit expensive, or you can buy most (but not all) of their parts separately.  These include wheel bays, flaps, tail surfaces, engines and wheels.

They are all also available from Hannants in the UK.

D Mold offers a very nice nose correction set similar to the Fisher set.  Right now D Mold is on vacation, but you should be able to order it in a couple of weeks.

FWIW, Former A-7 and F/A-18 Pilot, Delta Airlines Captain and Model Builder Mike "Psycho" McLeod built an EC-121 not too long ago for the Navy. I believe he might have some articles posted on ARC. I think he'd be a valuable data point to help you navigate thru construction.
