picknpluck
Got a question for the experts: Did the A-4F have the dual chaff/flare buckets on either side of the tailhook during Vietnam? Or did those chaff/flare buckets come later? Not to be confused with the chaff bucket on the left rear fuselage. I'm building a VA-144 bird from the 1970 cruise aboard Bonnie Dick. Slartibartfast
You might try Tommy Thomason's site, tailspinturtle.
GW8345
Here is a page from the Bonnie Dick's 1970 cruise book showing a VA-94 chaff bucket configuration. Though this is not a VA-144 bird I would think it would be configured the same as the one pictured. https://www.navysite.de/cruisebooks/cv31-70/091.htm It looks to me that there is a bucket on the starboard side at the base of the tail hook and one on the port side of the hook point. IIRC the bucket by the hook point came first, then the one on the starboard side base of the hook and finally one was added to the port side base. I believe that was the way they were added but don't hold me to it.
Finn
They had one by the hook point, either side, plus the one further aft: Pic Edit: here is another one: Jari Edited February 5, 2019 by Finn
