It seems all that is missing from the line up is a GR.1B version, then the list would be complete.

The Tornado has always been ignored weapons wise, which is strange, but then so were some of its weapons.

The Tornado GR1B, the RAF's specialised anti-shipping variant of the GR1, were modified to carry the Sea Eagle anti-ship missile and differences from an IDS/GR1 would be minimal in 1/48. Detailed resin / photo etch 1/48 Sea Eagles (and other RAF Tornado weapons) are available from DJ Parkins models in the UK. https://www.djparkins.com/product.php?productid=17839&cat=276&page=2

Getting back to Revell v.s. Italeri. Which one is the best option in terms of accuracy and ease of build? I plan to fully rivet the Italeri kit if I get that one (i.e., the lack of surface detail on Italeri not a problem for me).

I know Revell is a much newer mold. And just by looking at the inbox reviews are posted images of finished models, I would certainly go with Revell. But I have read so many issues/complaints about the Revell build that I am considering Italeri.

What are your thoughts?

Follow a good guide of the Revell kit and you'll dodge the issues with the kit.

Absolutely this. The Revell kit has detail that rivals Eduard/Tamiya/Hasegawa. The fit issues are mostly preventable by following other build guides. I just finished an Italian IDS and the surface detail just pops perfectly all around on the finished model.

Some links to good guides would be great.

All Iv';e seen are ones where people have struggled with the kit.  It looks like typical Revell. OK but not great, and built to a price point.

I’ve only seen in-progress or build logs of this kit where the builder struggles as well.

Would appreciate a link to someplace that talks about the land mines of building this kit and how not to step on them.

Thats the IPMS Tonka page, it's a goldmine for build advice. SHaun has some great alterations to the manual to make sure things go together a bit smoother. He's also the guy that makes some nice resin bits (including detailed wing seals)

This build has alot of good stuff in too.

Hi, as a "Gulf war expert" 😉 I cooperated with Eduard on releasing Desert Babe and "a bit" forced them to make all those Brassin sets. The only thing I am not sure about are the ALARM rails, because there are nearly no good pics of them, so the 3D design was a bit speculative. Are they really pointed downwards in real ?

I also made a list of everything for Tonka in all scales, check it here - https://www.dstorm.eu/pages/build_instructions/tornado_en.html

Any comments/updates/tweaks are very appreciated....

When ALARMs were mounted on the Tornado belly stations an adapter fitted between the pylon and the launch rail which canted the missile downwards a few degrees:

Different when fitted to the wing pylon:

Hope that's what you meant.
