Thought I should start this one, as a in-between-other-stuff project.

More emphasis will be given to the external surfaces and I will try to stay away from any complex additions etc...

So, I begun with adding a few panel lines and creating some stretched metal effect.

I believe I got it right this time.

This little area took me about 2hrs.  I calculated it will take me about 36 hours to finish the whole thing.

Hmmmm... See you next year!

Basic internal painting done.

I have added Eduard parts for the Airfix Defiant.

Basic color is 78 as you would expect, but I have used many other tones of green that it is not recognizable anymore.

I am not thrilled with Airfix's design for this cockpit to be honest...

Fuselage closed, but not entirely without problems. I had to separate the firewall from the cockpit floor for everything to settle correctly.
The beautiful instruments panel is from Yahu and much more convincing than that from Eduard...

Some more progress...

The landing gear are combination of the SAC (bad) gears and scratch building.

Wheels from Barracuda Studio. Great job in the main wheels, not so good at the tail wheel. For that one I user the SAC example.

Following the stressed metal effect, here comes BMF dressing up.

Well, I am not that motivated those days, so this will be confined to just the areas where weathering will follow...

Due to the unforeseen COVID-19 situation, I have spent hours of modelling.

So, there has been a lot of progress, but still a lot of work to be done.

Note that in order to be able and better handle the model, I have not painted the firewall and the vertical fin.

Next steps are the engine and the turret.

Wow!  That stressed-skin effect looks amazing!

Thanks mate.

This was supposed to be an OOB project, but Airfix model is soooo inspiring!

DIO,

Interesting stuff you're doing with this, Boulton Paul Defiant model. Outstanding work

on the seat & cockpit area. And, what can be said about the "stressed-skin effects" on

the build, really amazing! Onward and Upward with your unique efforts on your project.

The scratch building in the engine area has just began.

I did not want to work touching the already painted model, so I built a little cradle in the shape of the firewall.

All measurements and details will be made against it and the final component will then take place on the fuselage.

The engine here, comes from CMK set 4287 - Merlin Mk. 45/46 and NOT the 4363 - Baulton Paul Defiant.

The reason is that the Defiant set provides half the engine and no engine bearings. It is good only if you intend to show a half open engine and not what I was after.

Set 4363 though has the firewall and some of the details between the engine and the firewall, so if your budget allows, buy them both!

Cheers,

DIO
