F-14 wing angle question

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

What would be the Tomcat's wing angle when parked on a ramp (so NOT on an aircraft carrier) please ? Would the "oversweep" mode be used also on the ground ?

I would like to model my kt with the wings swept back.

Thanks

Marc

Yes, most of the time the plane would be parked with the wings in oversweep. The only time we would leave the wings out was when we had to do maintenance such as, washing the plane, the dreaded Flap/Slat Lockout, Phase maintenance, etc. After landing the pilot would sweep the wings as he taxied back to the fuel pits/flight line, if the wings were not in oversweep, the Plane Captain would direct the pilot to move the wings into the oversweep position.

Thanks gw

When leaving the ramp, when would the wings be swept forward ? On the taxiway ? Before entering the runway ?

Thanks

Usually we would have the pilot would spread the wings and drop the flaps/slats for final checking which was done at the end of the flight line. After he was final checked and all inert forward firing ordnance was armed he would taxi to the runway with the wings out and the flaps/slats down.

On a rare occasion, we would just final check him in spot without spreading the wings. When we did that the pilot would spread the wings as he taxied to the end of the runway, as he taxied he would drop the flap/slats and op-check the spoilers.

Thanks for the explanation.
