1:72 Red Hurricane Tu-14 Bosun Soviet Union

Recommended Posts

The 1:72 Red Hurricane kit of the Tupolev Tu-14 Bosun built in Soviet markings.

The Tu-14 was designed to fill the same role as the Il-28 Beagle. However, the Il-28 was chosen instead, but the Tu-14 did see service with the Soviet Naval forces and some were operated by China.

I have seen some not so well moulded kits, but this one it looks like the moulds are well past their use by date. With this being the only Tu-14 kit that I'm aware of, and no sign of the Modelsvit one coming any time soon.

This build was a bit of a hard slog at times, but with this being the only kit of the Tu-14 available, I was not going to let it beat me. I started it late August 2018 and finished March 2019, I never take this long on a build.

This kit had no interior whatsoever, so had to made up some bulkheads etc to stop the see through effect. The undercarriage was not strong enough, so made it out of bits of cut up sprue etc, which isn't quite scale thickness, but is more than strong enough to take the weight as there is a lot of weight in the nose and that was not enough to stop it tail sitting. Had to resort to a prop under the rear fuselage.

Colours used are Model Master 2129 green on the upper side and Model Master 1726 grey on the underside.

The kit decals did not look like they were going to work, so used some leftover Hasegawa MiG-25 decals
