Jugs in color

Recommended Posts

Don’t know if these have been posted, but watched them last night.  P-47 ops during the final days in th ETO, in color being readied and in action.  The strafing in video 2 looks computer enhanced & colorized, nevertheless looks pretty cool.

Not sure if I'd call those vids "nice".   Some of those strafing videos are pretty gruesome but it brings home what total war is all about.

War is never nice, but seeing color film from 70+ years ago like these are!

Believe this is original. My grandfather took some color film back in late 30's using old 16mm film, and when my mother had this film copied to VHS at the time the gent doing the copying said the colors where amazing, and that you can't get better color rendition today. (His words, not mine)

While the quality was good, I wish enough research was done so that a voice-over identifying who, when and where was added instead of the music tracks.

I'm reading Chris Bucholz's account of the 362FG at the moment and recognized their aircraft in several places.  They had red fin tips with a black stripe underneath it and the typical red, yellow or blue squadron colors on their noses.

It's difficult for this 61-year to realize most of those flyers were under the age of 25.  The older guys were already flying desks.

I'm building a couple of 366th FG Jugs and have their WWII memoris with lots of photos of life on the continent moving from one makeshift base to another supporting the gorund troops.  There are several first hand accounts of individual missions and several of members getting shot down or crashing.  Yes, most of these guys were young, definitley under 25 years old.  Not sure what the survival rate was, but it was not as good as the bomber escort boys, I'll bet.  Thanks for sharing the link.
