1/48 Finemolds Tie Fighter

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I thought I could join in the fun with a 1/48 Finemolds Tie Fighter. This kit has be sitting in my stash since 2014.
It'll be my first Star Wars build.

The box and it's contents.

Instructions and the few sprues. (Finemolds did include double the sprues in the first pic to make the 2 solar panel / wing thingys)

Here I've cleaned up the parts and given them a scrub with soap and water.
I wasn't too keen on the included display stand. It seemed a little clunky and so I've filled in some locating tabs and drilled a hole to accept a transparent acrylic rod.

Not too many parts in this one. I've started gluing bits together into subassemblies.

Hopefully this will go quickly.

Thanks for looking!

Isn't that what Vader's wingman said as they exited the launch bay?

Lol!

Looks like a nice kit.

It is! No complaints at all. Detail is great and everything fits together well. The plastic reminds me of Tamiya, super easy to work with.

Hi ARC,

I've painted up the interior and the pilot. Just a simple wash and a little dry brushing.
I'm not sure what those black and red panels are but they are made up of 4 decals per side.

Installed, I think they look kinda weird.

With the hatch off, I can still get some light for the shot.

I doubt you'll be able to see much once everything is buttoned up.

Thanks for looking

It will be a shame not to be able to see the pilot, your paint job on him really brought out all the little details.

Quick update.

After spending too much time on researching colors, I gave up and decided to paint whatever looked right to me.
Base coat was Tamiya's XF-69 Nato Black.
Over this I sprayed Gunze's H-53 Neutral Gray. As you can see, this gray is not so neutral but has a blueish cast that I was after.
The darker details were painted in Gunze's H-68 RLM 74 Dark Gray.

The front cockpit glass frame was painted Tamiya's XF-63 German Gray.
Everything was then given a thin coat of Tamiya X-22 clear.

  • 3 weeks later...

She's done. It only took me 6 weeks, which is plenty fast for me. Group builds certainly seem to give me a kick in the behind.
Really fun kit and everything fits together well. My only criticism is that the transparencies aren't clear. They seem a little distorted and cloudy so polishing and future didn't help.

On to the pics!

A big shout out to Hajo and Phantom for organising the GB. Thanks guys!

You should build more Star Wars because you are very good at it.  I like your choice of colors, they might not be technically right (What ever that is) but to me that looks just right.  The standing figure on the base is a nice touch to give a sense of scale.
