Aigore
3 hours ago, Hubbie Marsten said: Hi Janne There are very good tools out there for this task: the Tamiya 74123 Side Cutter is intended for removing plastic parts from sprues as well as nipping on photoetched pieces. Then there's also the Gundam Planet Side Cutter, which performs exactly as the Tamiya does, only that the tips on the latter are a little more blunt, and not so pointy as the former. I've learnt about the God's Hands and DSPIAE too, but I don't know any of them. I use the Gundam Planet one for removing plastic from sprues and the Tamiya tool for removing photoetched parts from the frets. Always try to be gentle when using any of both because those tools are expensive. Thanx for the input 😄
Aigore
Update time! I repainted the seals in black, added the last masks and then I glued the windscreen into place I lightly fastened the canopy for the painitng process so it masks off the cockpit. Glued the airbrake shut, added some nose weight just to be sure and glued the nose in place. Next some PE origami. Bent up the suports for the inner ring. Glued it.. Bent the outer ring supports... And glued the ring in place..not perfect but good enough 😄 Engine parts ready for primer. And I finished todays session with priming in alcad black and then shoot alclad gloss black on top. Cheers! Aigore
Now then, a short update 😄 I primed the parts and the fuselage in alclad grey microfiller 😄 on the whole it looks good but of course there are a few spots that needs smome more work. The intakes fit nicely into the engine nacelles. Noticed I was out of Airframe aluminium so I tried polished aluminium as a base for the engines, I want a as shiney hue as possible as a base for the engine painting. We shall see if this fares well. I´m not convinced. Cheers!
nikosmeta
You can use chrome if you want a shine base. Great work by the way Edited July 15, 2019 by nikosmeta

Aigore
As promised, an update 😄 Painted white and gloss white on panels and the nosecone. Masked.. Shot white aluminium over the CM dispensers. and masked The flame holders were painted in dark aluminium. Rear of the engine I painted in XF-73 JGSDF dark green The shaft is panted with streaks of JPN green gray and XF-73. And the exhausts is repainted in Alclad Airframe aluminium Glued the flameholders in place... Weathered the shaft with pigments. And glued in place. OK, that´s the easy parts of the engines done 😛 cheers!

Sebastijan
Not sure why you went so far to mask each individual countermeasure cartridge, as the whole panel is in bare metal. Here's a pic I did back in 2011 where those panels can be clearly seen as well as stained empty cartridges.
Mstor
I've seen pics where each individual cartridge is surrounded by painted panels. https://www.airliners.net/photo/Russia-Air-Force/Sukhoi-Su-27SM3/2150568/L

I'd suggest @Aigore when the paintjob will be done, to just mask the panels, and spray them with different sheen metallic colour to the one he used (preferably slightly darker) and then unmask the whole deal... should create a nice contrasty effect between the panel and the individual cartridges. Su-33s on the other hand, due different CM location, have individual cartridges without the unpainted surrounding panel. Edited August 2, 2019 by Sebastijan

Thanks for clarifying that for me.
Aigore
Great idea, Seb 😄 I masked them individually because I got individual masks in a set 🙂
Aigore
I've started painting and I'm a bit annoyed at Lindenhill has not presented paintguides from above for each specific option since they all differ from the norm. I decided to make Blue 41 and I'm looking for pics of it.
Sebastijan
Guardians of the north sheet? Blue 41? I'll check my archive
