Do-27 in 1/72 by Special Hobby

I want to show you the current project I´m working on, which is the - I can´t stress this enough - brilliant kit of the Dornier Do-27 by Special Hobby in 1/72.

 

 

Since I wanted to do an aircraft in German Army Aviation markings, I bought a set of decals from HaHen, only to notice later one that I initially fell in love with the decals by AirDOC, but the HaHen-decals do have markings for a Heeresflieger (Army Aviation) version as well.

 

The interiour is nicely done and quickly got some color:

 

 

As usual, I put in a crew, using the Revell Pilots set. The pilots got different heads and now wear head-phones.

 

Even though the Do-27 is pretty small, the two figures fit in pretty good!

 

 

An officer of the German Army is sitting in the back, enjoying a ride to get an aerial view and better situational awareness. I had to use a 1/87 scale figure, since anything bigger wouldn´t fit into the compartment. But looking at this smaller "Panzer-Mann", I´m reminded of a former german Colonel that commanded my brigade when I was a conscript in 1996/97. "Oberst Trull", as his rank and name were then (he retired as Major General in 2008) was very popular in the German Army for his dedication, professionalism and style, and I was proud to have been a member of "his" Tank Brigade 18 "Holstein" back then.

Also mounted the wings and rudders, so far really excellent fit!

I gave my Tank Officer a rucksack, a map and a G3 rifle:

 

 

Looks like he´s enjoying the ride!

 

 

Also added the engine cowling and the clear parts.

 

 

I don´t think I have ever seen such brilliant clear parts before!

 

 

 

I used some blueish grey for the whole uppe rpart of the aircraft as base coat.

It does look the part, especially in comparison to the instructions!

What a nice build.

I've always had a soft spot for this sample of "German robust engineering".

Have you hand-brushed? If so the result is wonderful.

Can't wait to see markings going on.

Thanks, yes, he should have used a seat-belt, although I´m not sure if he may already uses one, since it might be a classic waist belt, which would be hard to see.

Most of the decals are from the kit, except those that were necessary for the Heeresflieger (Army Aviation) markings by HaHen.

 

 

 

The HaHen-decals are a bit darker and less colorful and therefor you can see some slight differences, especially at the hull-number.

 

 

 

 

Overall I´m very pleased with the kit and the result and will surely build another Do-27. Then most likely something where I can live up my creativity.
