Hi all,

I'm building the excellent GWH F-15I. My question is on some 15's the actuators are visible but on others they're sheathed (if you know what I mean).

My question is should I be using the sheathed nozzles as supplied in the kit or should I buy aftermarket with the actuators laid bare? If so who does a good pair?

Hope my question makes sense and many thanks,

Marc.

F-15Is retain the feathers, if you want extra detail you can use Aires exhausts combined with the GWH feathers it works well with a bit of external thinning of the Aires parts (invisible once the feathers are on top):

BTW, you posted this in the archives section, where old posts go to spend a quiet retirement. You'll get more visibility if you post one level up in the regular Jet Modeling forum. But, arnobiz pretty much answered your question. Yes, the F-15Is retained the "turkey feathers".

The original turkey feathers were a bit maintenance intensive, and also sometimes fell off.  US Eagles eventually removed them, figuring that the maintenance advantage and weight savings of removing them outweighed the reduced drag of keeping them.  Plus, US aircraft normally have plenty of tanker support, so a bit more drag isn’t a problem.  The Israelis kept the turkey feathers on their A-D models for quite a bit longer than the US, but eventually also started removing them.  The F-15Is all retain the turkey feathers, which are made of carbon fiber, rather than the metal of the originals.
