tn_prvteye
I've seen other posts claiming that the Main Gear of the Academy Legacy Hornet is wonky. I haven't started it yet, but I can't tell what the issue is by looking at the sprue. Does anyone have a work-around (other than using another kit's parts)? What's the issue? Bad angle? Wrong shape? I'm looking at references, but it's hard to tell without actually gluing them on...and then it's too late. 🙂
picknpluck
I think the issue is with the angle of the main gear legs. I used the kit parts and you know what? Almost two years later, I'm still alive and I haven't lost sleep. 😁
tn_prvteye
Yeah, but which angle? 😄 Maybe I'll just go with an in-flight display. Because I WILL lose sleep. 😅
picknpluck
Judge for yourself. I can't really tell--especially in 1/72. (Sorry about the crappy pic)
tn_prvteye
Ok, I can kinda sorta see the issue. Nice work, by the way!
Sebastijan
the lower arm should be angled outwards while in the kit, it's pointing straight backwards. The difference is most noticeable if you look at the model from the front.
tn_prvteye
Maybe I'll snag the gear from my Hasegawa Super Hornet. Should be the same. Edit: After a quick search, the main gear is NOT the same on the Super. Guess I'll be doing some fixing on the kit parts. Edited July 3, 2019 by tn_prvteye

Hello, If I has to go for a fix, I'd try with the Hasegawa or Italeri Legacy Hornet gear if you can find some. Cheers... Eric B.
kurnass77
I modified my example some time ago,but if you have one Super Bug spare can save some time Gianni
tn_prvteye
Actually managed to find some Fujimi gear legs in my spares box! Nice build, by the way!
Milo
Scale Aircraft Conversions make replacement gear for both the Hasegawa and the Academy kits. They are just direct copies in metal. If you can't find a donor, then try the Hasegawa set. The difference is pretty striking, here's both so you can see the difference: Hasegawa Academy
tn_prvteye
I was looking at those. Costs almost as much as the Hasegawa kit itself. 🙂 Luckily I think I can make the Fujimi parts work.
