Andrew D. the Jolly Rogers guy
Having trouble finding reference for stencilling/markings for the wing tanks of an F-105 in SEA camouflage. Just some views of #320 at the USAF museum, but would rather a non-museum piece.
BillS
My question would be did they have any at all? You wouldn't be wrong with a red cap and no markings in my view. What would probably be really interesting is a loosley stenciled field numbers of some kind. I’m thinking wing tanks stayed “ married” to a particular jet on most occasions as leak and transfer checks could be a real pain when “musical” tanks was played. I think it will be hard to get hard proof of any real standardization during that period.
Ben Brown
Looking through my downloaded Thud pics, I'm not seeing any stencils on camouflaged tanks. Occasionally on natural metal tanks, there is some kind of red block stencil on top near the fins and an occasional NO STEP on the fins themselves. Ben
