jester292
I have a couple left over in 1:48 and looking to use them on a legacy Hornet. Does it need a datalink pod or is it a stand alone munition?
jester292
Ok. Fire and forget like AGM-88 HARM.
Murph
It uses the AN/AWW-13 Advanced Data Link pod. LINK Regards, Murph Edited August 4, 2019 by Murph
Collin
Typically you will see the SLAM/pod combo on the aircraft.....but you could load it up and “drop” without a pod on the same aircraft if you desire. So loading up a legacy bug with 2 x ER’s feasible (although that drag count will be pretty high). Drop Vs Fire: SLAM (Harpoon family actually) doesn’t shoot like HARM, Maverick, or other missiles. It “drops” from the parent rack. We we had some test situations where we carried and dropped, and another aircraft was terminal control (meaning we were just a mule and the other aircraft had the pods). Fleet has that option as well. Murph posted a classic VX photo. Two pods to increase probability that one will work (-13 pods could be temperamental). All I could find was AN/ASQ-28 info for the Hornet. Where could I find the AN/AAW-13 in 1:48?

Appreciate the info. If I can’t score an AN/AAW-13 in 1:48 I’ll switch the loadout.
jester292
As a follow up, what would be required to support the AGM-84 Harpoon? Any data link or targeting pods? Or could that be aimed and guided by the on board radar?
Collin
No pod required for Harpoon. You tell it where to go (normally via your radar/aircraft computer) and after launch the onboard IMU takes it there. Cheers Collin
