11bee
https://www.military.com/daily-news/2019/09/26/navy-finally-replacing-seahawk-gunner-seats-cause-back-injuries.html The first ones were hazardous in a crash. The redesigned ones solved that problem but apparently were so unergonomically designed that they were causing severe back injuries to the crewmembers. Had to be pretty bad if fixing these seats was the No. 2 priority in Naval Aviation. I guess my question is - assuming this is truly only an MH-60S problem, why would the Navy have opted to design their own gunner's seats in the first place, instead of just using the Army version which (I assume) didn't have these problems? Pretty sad that it apparently took three tries (and I'm guessing, a few million dollars) to get something as basic as a seat correct. Anyone have pics of the three versions of these seats? Par429
Hey- The new seats have started to be delivered to fleet units https://navalaviationnews.navylive.dodlive.mil/2019/11/25/navair-delivers-mh-60s-gunner-seat-replacement-to-the-fleet/ The Navy chose not to use the Army seats because requirements for aircraft equipment are different between the two services and the Army seats did not meet Navy requirements.
