bgire
Hello Space Folks, I'm new on this forum and I wanted to share with you a résumé of my 2012 design + building of a 1:24 scale resin, metal and photo etching model of NASA Ranger 8 Lunar Probe. This took me about one year to suceed, including about 130hrs of CAD, these last spread in four months. I started from NASA original blueprints and a collection of pictures from museums and archives. My starting point: First came the extensive CAD work. Some milestones: Then went the 3D printing phase. Extracts: At that step a friend of mine proposed to produce this kit commercially in limited run and supply me with PU resin cast part in lieu of original printed ones. Months later I got the cast parts, the PE sheet and turned brass rods: Here is the complete kit: Next step, the assembly: Some coats of Alclad2 later: The solar panels: The main bus: The star finder and antenna orientation motor: The main antenna with its brass mesh: Last steps: And at last we're done: This assembly won a silver medal at Telford, UK, in 2015. Originally a gold medal but it was soon stepped back in favour of another assembly... also from me: Thanks for watching _Bruno

K2Pete
You've done a SUPERB job on this Bruno! And Welcome to this forum! I hope you post a lot more of your builds. We were told in a posting here, some time ago, about your 1st place win at Telford by, if I recall correctly, Leon at LVM. You used his PE on the Russian Rocket and launch pad. Is that right? This model looks per-r-rfect! It's nice when you have all the control from design, in CAD, to building it up ... and to be able to incorporate ALL those details! Lovely details! bgire
We were told in a posting here, some time ago, about your 1st place win at Telford by, if I recall correctly, Leon at LVM. You used his PE on the Russian Rocket and launch pad. Is that right? Pete Thank you Pete for your kind comment. Yes, I won 1st place at Telford the same year (2015): the first time ever a space subject got Best of Show there... the "Space jury" was extremely proud indeed, so was Leon. That's why my Ranger was down-classed to make room for this other project. This was the Soyuz launch pad. I plan to post another résumé of this building very soon. _Bruno

ralf
I've seen your builds on the french forums already and they are a great inspiration. Especially since I did start a Ranger scratchbuild myself. Then I've discovered yout project and I purchased the L'Arsenal kit right away since it was way better than my puny attempts. Cheers Ralf
