Tomcat124
Anyone have any insight as to why 1/32 sheets for Tomcats, Hornets, and Super Hornets are not being made anymore. Where is the large scale love?
Dave Williams
Probably because there aren’t new kits, for the most part. Usually the big wave of sheets come out when a kit of a particular aircraft is first released. There were plenty of sheets when the Tamiya and Trumpeter F-14s, Academy Hornets, and Trumpeter Super Hornets came out. I know that Revell just released their SH kit, but it’s turned out to be a dumpster fire, and that may have scared decal manufacturers off.
Tomcat124
That makes sense. I guess I chose the wrong time to get back into the hobby.
Don
If you need decals you could try EBay. I just did a quick search for "1/32 F-14 Decals" and "1/32 F-18 Decals" and got 61 results for Tomcats and 68 results for Hornets. No idea what the options are but its something. Good luck! Waco
Along with the reasons listed above, you can add to it the fact 1/32 decals do not sell very well. If stock doesn't move, the manufacturers aren't going to make more of them.
bushande
Plus: The market for the actual 1/32 models itself is shrinking. The Chinese gave it a short boost with Trumpeter but also seem to realize by now that the market potential is just too small compared to the smaller scales such as 48 and 72. Heck there was even rumor that Revell for instance won't ever produce new molds in 1/32 but will rather stick with rereleasing old molds and even that supposedly at a slower rate. If that proves to be true it speaks volumes. Fewer ever more expensive kits seems to be the tendency. The lack of 1/32 decals is just a follow on phenomenon. Get what you can while you can. Actually, "Get what you can while you can" is sound advice for decals, aftermarket, kits and paints (especially enamels).
