Dave Williams
Poking around over at the Culttvman shop, it looks like Round 2/AMT is scaling down their 1/48 Space 1999 Eagle to 1/72 size (in scale with their Hawk release), as well as reissuing the big 1/48 Eagle with the laboratory pod. Don’t know if the new 1/48 boxing will also include the spine booster pack, but if it doesn’t, hopefully they’ll release it as an accessory. Can’t wait.
niart17
Ohhhh nice. I have the 1/48 Eagle kit and it is a really nice kit I think. I need to take that out one day and finish it. Would love to see the Hawk in 1/48th as well. Thanks for sharing.
Dave Williams
Got a couple of the 1/72 Eagles yesterday. It’s pretty much a direct scale down of the 1/48 kit with the changes being the deletion of the cockpit interior and the landing gear being fixed, although you do get a choice of landed (weighted) struts or flying (unweighted) struts. A bit bigger than the old MPC/Airfix kit, which they are now saying is 1/96 scale. The scales are a bit meaningless though, since the actual miniatures weren’t built to a scale. The “1/48” designation only comes from the fact the the kit is 1/2 the size of the 44” miniature, which used 1/24 Gemini model figures in the cockpit, but those were just handy figures to put inside of the cockpit. Other features of the model like the passenger pod side doors are too small for a normal 6 foot human to go through without stooping down, and there is the ago old issue of the interior sets being much bigger than the exterior model dimensions would suggest. Dave Williams
Got the new 1/48 kit yesterday, along with the separate spine booster accessory kit. Very nice. They made changes to the detail on the gear boxes and the “bottles” in front of the main engine exhausts to match the second 44” filming model (“Eagle 2”). Note that the new kit only comes with the new parts, season 2 figures, and the lab module. The original Eagle 1 parts and passenger pod aren’t included.
