A-10 LOADER
Greetings all, I haven't had much bench time lately but, I did manage to get the S-3B's instrument panel coaming painted, just brushed it because it's still too hot and humid to spray in the booth in the garage, and attached the canopy. Not much of an update but, still progress. Thanks for following along. Steve

SERNAK
Hi Steve, I think you're treating each part as a model of itself, which is good because it helps to generate a "homogenised" image of the build. Plus, this is how models win contests!!!

I like to prove to myself that I can do something new and different but, this is also where I run into trouble, AMS (Advanced Modelers Syndrome ) and take FOREVER to complete a build. I gave up building "for contests" long ago. Steve
A-10 LOADER
I have not given up on these builds, I've just been too busy with the "honey do" list. I'm hoping (fingers crossed) to be back on them shortly. Steve
A-10 LOADER
Good afternoon all, Time to knock the dust off this thread with some updates, since I managed to get something accomplished. I painted the insides of the bomb rack areas, since they would not be accessible after being glued in and, also painted and glued in the back of the bomb bay area. The insides of the intakes along with most of the landing gear parts were painted. The ARS pod and MK-82's were primed. Engine parts and the APU exhaust, for the Shadow, were primed for their Alclad colors. The exhaust area and the spinner for the exhaust turbine were primed and painted with Model Master enamel Jet Exhaust, the fan blades will be painted steel. And finally the wheels and tires were painted. Thanks to all who are still following along and wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving. BTW, I'm doing the same thing, for posting pics, that I've been doing for years now so, I don't understand why all of a sudden it's not working. I'm playing email tag with a Photobucket support guy who's trying to figure out the issue. Steve

wardog
Hello Steve, Seems like we can't get away from issues affecting image uploading. I finally threw in the towel with using PB/Google Pics and now using Imgur per the advice of RichB63.........It works great and is user friendly. Much like you, I'm not great with computers so if I found it easy you should too! -Elmo
Vidar_710
They did a change a few weeks back. Those link options no longer pop up. Found a work around though. In Photobucket, click on your image until you get it to full size, then right click on it and select 'Copy Image', then paste it where you want it into your context. I have a Starship Excelsior scratch build thread in the sci-fi section if you want to see how it turns out. Images posted with this technique are only on the last page. A-10 LOADER
Thanks for the help Tracy, your a genius. I just tried a test and it worked. I fixed yesterday's post and the update is above. Steve Edited November 26, 2020 by A-10 LOADER
A-10 LOADER
I managed to get some things accomplished on the Viking this weekend, it's not a lot but, every bit helps. I weathered the engine cowl areas and the exhaust turbine's and glued those assemblies together. Most of the landing gear parts and the tires were weathered. I also got the Bypass fans and the Compressor turbine's painted. There are four different metal shades on the turbine spinners. I'll add a wash to the Compressor fan blades when they're dry. Thanks to those following along. Stay safe everyone. Steve
SERNAK
Hi Steve, I don't see any improvements at the wheel bays' area. Are you planning on doing some or, you gonna keep them as they are? Bill

As for the wheel bays, I had thought about doing improvements but, after studying reference pics, I decided not to. I know my limitations. Steve
SERNAK
A ha!!! So, there are limits even for you😆😆🤣 Why don't you buy the Metallic Details set and use it to improve the wheel bays? From what I see, it almost has all the details included.

They are very nice but, at this stage of the game it's too late. They would have needed to be installed prior to gluing the fuselage halves together. Steve
A-10 LOADER
Greeting's all, I spent most of yesterday doing some tedious additions to both the S-3B and the ES-3A's airframes. First up was trying to add the details, to the upper nose area, in front of the windscreen like the reference pic below. The wiper arms were cut off once the glue dried. This will allow me to blend in the wiper fairings with the anti-glare color and I'm able to mask the canopy with the arms out of the way. Hopefully everything will look ok when painted. I sourced a clear light, from my spare stash, for the top of the tail since the molded in one was sanded away. I also added a small plastic disk and added the clear light on top of that for the belly light. As I said above, all these details were added to the Shadow as well. Until the next update, Steve
A-10 LOADER
Spent some time last night getting the "textured" walkways and areas on the Viking. I used the kits decal as a template and masked out the area. BIC Wite-Out was used for the "texture". Getting closer to priming her up. Thanks for having a look. A-10 LOADER
I managed to get the walkways added to the Shadow last night. With the lack of reference photos out there for these birds, I went with I thought looked correct. I also scratch-build the ALD-9 Antennas for the tail, out of some .015 plastic, because the kits were wrong. I'm now attempting to make the wing struts that support the wings when folded. Again, this is an item that didn't get photographed much, if at all, so finding good reference pics has been a challenge. I have a few but, what I need to know is this, when they were installed on the jet is the PORT side strut shorter than the STARBOARD side ? I have a call into the PIMA Air and Space museum and I'm waiting a reply. Anyone who can tell me the real story, it would be greatly appreciated, thanks. Steve
martin_sam_2000
Amazing work. I have an S-3 in the stash and I will definately use some of your work as a reference. BTW, I took a few walkaround pictures of the S-3 while I was at Pima a few years ago..hopefully they will be of help They seem to be the same length and same angle off the wing, they just attach at different points n on the fuselage.
