tomthegrom
Hello, I am traveling to Japan at the end of January. I would like to take an afternoon to go to NAF Atsugi. Is the F14 gate guard there accessible to the public? This would be one of the major reasons for visiting Atsugi. Thank you for the info. Tom
southwestforests
Wonder how much an international phone call would cost? This looks like a probable number to try, Quote For questions regarding base information and open base events, call Host Nation Relations Office at 0467-78-2664 or Public Affairs Office at 264-4452 (DSN) / 0467-63-4452. https://www.cnic.navy.mil/regions/cnrj/installations/naf_atsugi/about/installation_guide/phone_directory.html Definitely have to get inside the gate to see the F-14 from what this shows, https://www.google.com/maps/place/NAF+Atsugi+Vehicle+Registration+Office+(VRO)/@35.4574346,139.4350841,346m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m12!1m6!3m5!1s0x0:0x69d83a4d40718121!2sNaval+Air+Facility+Atsugi!8m2!3d35.4581818!4d139.4478945!3m4!1s0x0:0xad322c43f87e0e7f!8m2!3d35.458503!4d139.4334179 Edited December 12, 2019 by southwestforests
fulcrum1
The F-14 is by the hotel, which is away from the gate. Once past the gate there is an F-4 and A-4. Using trains or renting a car? There is a good model shop in Atsugi.
tosouthern66
I miss NAF Atsugi!!!!
ikar
I'm not familiar with Navy base security, having been in the Air Force, but unless you have a need to be on the base I have a feeling that your chances of getting past the gate are not that good. Especially since the recent shootings. Even when I was in you had to get permission to enter, and have a valid reason, and be vouched in by someone who will take the responsibility of your actions.. tomthegrom
Thanks everyone. It is a shame that I wont be able to see it. It looks well preserved and wearing VF squadron colours so that is a bonus! Would anyone be able to recommend where I might see fighters flying near Tokyo? Years ago in Sapporro I got to see Eagles and that was great. I would like to see F2s, F15s and especially F4s. cheers Tom
fulcrum1
Might try Hyakuri airfield. It's North of Tokyo, couple hours by train. I think they have F-4's on static display there.
