Matt, I agree with you as far as it goes.  But the fact is that these wonderful little Quinta sets are very expensive, and not everyone can or will choose to afford them. Plus, there will always be those folks who want to do it the ’hard way’, if for no other reason than they can. As for me, someone with zero artistic or other talent, I love that there is now another option to make my airplanes look great, which is my ultimate goal anyway.  But, getting back to the topic that the OP started...  😊

Hmmm maybe, but I am not 100% sure. I haven’t seen the Quinta Decals in person yet but the combination of a great oob cockpit together with cockpit decals and some careful painting also leads to some spectacular results (see for example hanetos Su-35 build on this site). Great Wall Hobby does a great job in that regards.

Habe received two AKAN sets. 47332 and 47325. both for Su-27, from what I understand 47332 is for later colors, after 2014.

And yes, 73069 grey dark blue looks in the bottle very much like the Quinta color choice  for Su-27UB.

now I can start with the build

I was being sarcastic. They're lazy.

Ill be grabbing a few Quinta sets.

One thing is for sure is some weathering, a wash etc will lift Quinta from just a 3D addon set to incredible.

There is always room for the cockpit artist to improve upon a great set and elevate their work above the shake and bake crew.

Just because they do a great job doesnt mean it cant be improved on..

Thanks, haneto.  May I respectfully request a slightly off topic question and ask what UV Glue anyone has used with success?  I’ve considered getting some in the past, and I guess there’s no time like the present.  I suggest if anyone can recommend 1 or 2 glue sets, I don’t need to turn this into a big off-topic deal...

Wow, thanks for the heads up. In a slight panic, checked my kit and, welp, same problem:

So this could be a widespread issue with molds. Everyone should check! Got mine from Lucky Model (live in US). Probably can be fixed with some hot water and bending, though?

Mine are from Sprue Brothers both. There are also reports on Russian forums.

Yes, it probably can be fixed with hot water but I afraid fins might bend fist as they're much thinner.

Well, got my second kit and found a bunch of bent missiles. All R-27Rs are bent, one 27T is bent slightly while second is straight. Checked first kit, found both 27T bent slightly and 4 straight 27Rs.20201221_114001.jpg.2e3d82eebd108dd7bb8d9beed54c225f.jpg

I got two kits, the one I got from Sprue Brothers today is fine, the one I got from Lucky Model has the same problem as described by Helmsman above.

Easy fix, I don't know.

Do any of you guys have any paint recommendations.  I usually spray lacquer paints. I’m on the fence between Akan russian paints 10ml bottles or mrp 30ml paints.  Thanks for looking

Akan Lacquers are good paint. My experience with the water based acryl paints was terrible. Very poor adhesion on a very good primer (Mr. Surfacer 1200) so unless they made some amazing changes lately, I would stay clear of them. There are some very good enamels from White Ensign which are supposed to be very good color wise as well. Stay away from Akan water based products.

So if I wanted to do this guy, which laquer series AKAN set should I buy? I've been using their acrylics for a few years, but agree that adhesion is a problem and I need to switch to the lacquers.

Thanks so much, and hope everyone has a good holiday (as best you can during the 2020 dumpster fire).....
