Su-27 main gear operation

Recommended Posts

Can someone enlighten me in how the main gear on the Su-27 operates? How does the landing gear engage with the bulge on the outside of the wheel well?

I can’t describe the exact mechanism but there are close-up pics of the connection in reference books. The F-14 has a similar main gear / fuselage attachment.

I took this screen grab from a video.......

As you can see the arm extends from the mainleg - and engages with the locking mechanism inside the fuselage bulge/fairing....

I've just re-found the video - here :- https://youtu.be/bf1Pv_3BPlg

The retraction sequence is at approx 0:41

Also, the Aviation Art Su-33 thread has a very nice shot of the main gear with the mainleg arm attached to the locking mechanism on page 23. Its in one of Ching Kuo's short videos.
