bushande
So this is my 1/48 Ghost Tiger Eurofighter. When I did the design for Luftwaffe Fighterwing 74 in Neubrug Bavaria in 2018 I had no idea it would be so well received and eventually win "Best Painted Aircraft" at 2018's edition of the Nato Tiger Meet exercise and would also be selected as the Luftwaffe's official display bird on several occassions. Since the Ghost Tiger in 1/72 from Revell is a bit too small for me, and understandably this special livery means a bit more to me than some other Tiffies, the birdie had to be a little bigger in my showcase. In addition, I had a little special effect in my head that unfortunately didn't make it to the original (but could almost have with a little more time!). I really wanted to know what it could have looked like, so here is my "uncanny Ghost Tiger - glow in the dark edition" Boooohooohooooooooooooo .... (for all those who might still be interested in the route up to that point and who might want to take something with them for their own Tiffy project , here's the WIP again:) Edited February 2, 2020 by bushande
bushande
I am not sure how many pictures such a flyout should have. Should it be too much, please let me know and I will delete some immediately. Maybe a few detail pictures first ...
bushande
On the original, depending on the angle of the light, you could make out a certain color difference between the gray on the foil and the paint on the jet. I tried to show it in a similar way in the decals. Otherwise, I hope that the tiger stripes also lie as in the original and all panels are where they should be:
bushande
Depending on the sunlight, the film on the HUD display also casts a nice green shimmer and here the conversion work on the canopy frame might become a little clearer: Edited February 2, 2020 by bushande
bushande
Here one can maybe see the small color differences on the slats again (mentioned in the WIP)?
bushande
Basically I think (well ... I hope) that all stripes are where they were in the original. Fortunately, the tiger foil didn't let much show through ....
bushande
Here's a quick look at the ... well ... almost DIY engines. Resin would be a nice idea here!
bushande
A quick look at the belly side: The tanks and the payload are removable. As for the intakes; as you can see ....... you don’t see any of the rework, but at least I know it’s there hehe:
bushande
Another quick look at the engines; in the dark you can see more than in daylight
bushande
The stand is a converted polystone with welding wire:
bushande
On the original, the fail was sealed at many areas and panel lines with a shiny glue / sealant. I tried to imitate this somewhat in the model. If the satin finish shines in one place every now and then, it is deliberately so!
bushande
So, another few day/night pictures of the whole plane and then I'll leave you alone:
bushande
one in the light, one in the dark, and one very dark (at some point, there is no point anymore in taking pictures) ....
bushande
almost done ... Edited February 2, 2020 by bushande
bushande
Actually, I wanted to cover the foil with flat coat first and then polish it up a bit, but it was a bit too delicate for me. I am quite satisfied with the satin finish:
bushande
a few more of the belly:
bushande
and that's the airshow/display config ...
bushande
another few GITD shots and we are done ...
bushande
xxx...
bushande
alright these are the last one and you are rid of me.
bushande
And off and away with it onto the shelf. Thanks for the interest and for holding out until here. On to the next project!
weirich1
COMPLETELY AMAZING! I have never seen a glow-in-the-dark fighter jet model. You knocked this one out of the galaxy. The lighting effects are top notch (cockpit, engines, position lights).
bushande
Many many thanks for the kind words. Happy you like it. I can only recommend the Revell Eurofighter. It is a rudimentary kit but all that is necessary to make it presentable can easily be done and it is a very forgiving model.
Mstor
Amazing and wonderful! Never seen a finish like that on a model. Like you said, its a shame so much of the detail you added was lost under the foil, but its still beautiful. Well done Sir!
bushande
Many thanks for the kind feedback. I'm happy it was somewhat entertaining. The whole project was much more a matter of learning about the Typhoon and getting accustomed to the model. Would have loved to do the Glow in the Dark thing on the real one bute sadly there wasn't enough time when we did it roughly two years ago. I basically did it on the model because was currious how it would have looked like on the real thing.
