Whiskey
Not wanting to step on Collin's toes regarding his long standing topic of modern USN aircraft pictures showing the stages of weathering while operating I decided to make the same for USAF specific aircraft. We've all seen (hopefully) awesome tanker shots that can allow us to view the damage done by a refueling boom however this recent one really caught my eye. https://www.businessinsider.com/damage-to-a10-warthog-nose-by-refueling-tanker-flying-boom-2020-2?amp What else can we contribute? 11bee
I'll play along. Since I'm building a Korean War F-51D, figured I'd add these dirty birds:

weirich1
The Fort Wayne (IN) A-10 at Toledo Air Show in July 2019 was beat up just like the image above. WTF?
picknpluck
The most eye-catching thing about this pic is the loadout but also noteworthy and more subtle is the uneven wear on the walkways.
picknpluck
How about the chipping and fuel stains on the mud hen? (My pics)

Falconxlvi
I’ll play this game too Here’s one of me refueling over Afghanistan in late summer of 2011. Our jets were positively filthy by this point in the deployment!
boom175
The nose cap gets beat up all the time, we had to look for cracks in them and we would have sheet metal change them out in phase. I want to say it was stainless but its been almost 9 years since I retired (WOW!)
Whiskey
Sweet, thanks Collin!

I'm not up on my A-10's like many here, thought it was the RWR, since that fixture has been on A-10's almost since day one. Could very well be mistaken tho... Did the A-10 get fitted with a MAWS? picknpluck
Here's the back side of the A-10 I posted above.
11bee
Interesting..... so the Hawg does have a MAWS. Where are the other sensors located or does it just have aft coverage?

Slartibartfast
For God's sake, if you're quoting a post with a bunch of photos, PLEASE delete those not germane to your comment! My cable internet connection choked and died on this page.

Slartibartfast
It seems this thread has gone from dirty Air Force birds to any and all Air Force birds.
