Dave1089
Hi guys, Strange question.... I'm travelling across the pond later this year for a couple of weeks and eventually making my way to New York. I just wanted to ask if the F-14D that was on display in Bethpage NY is still there? If so, is there parking nearby to get a look at it? Thanks in advance. Dave
dnl42
I don't know about an F-14 in Bethpage, but there is one on the Intrepid Museum in Manhattan (NYC). FWIW, F-14 assemblies were built in Bethpage--the big electron beam welder was in Plant 1. The aircraft was built out in Calverton. Edit: I may not have known, but Google did... Chriss7607
I know it doesn't answer the question, but if you're in the area there's also the Cradle of Aviation Museum at the former Mitchell Field. Not only do they have a Tomcat but they have a number of Grumman aircraft! It might be worth checking out.

There is an F-14 at both Northrop Grumman in Bethpage, and at Calverton. The Calverton one is at Grumman Memorial Park, here: 4670 NY-25, Calverton, NY 11933. It's right on the road, and there's also an A-6 Intruder next to it. There is a small parking area that is typically empty. At Bethpage, it is located here: 288 Grumman Rd, W. Bethpage, NY, 11714. There is a large parking lot right behind it... but its an employee lot for Northrop Grumman, so I dont think you can actually park there. I lived a few blocks from this place for 2 years. BaconRaygun
Here's the "address" for Cradle of Aviation. Yes, this is the actual address. Cradle of Aviation Museum, Charles Lindbergh Blvd, Garden City, NY 11530 This is close to where Lindbergh took off for his Atlantic crossing. Unfortunately, that field has a big mall on it now... so nothing special to see there. There's also the American Airpower Museum, which is not too far from Grumman. It's at Republic Airport in Farmingdale. Address: 1230 New Hwy, Farmingdale, NY 11735 Edited February 13, 2020 by BaconRaygun
Dave1089
Thanks for all the replies guys. I'll be sure to check out the memorial park, Cradle of Aviation and American Airpower Museum. Is there parking anywhere near the F-14 in Bethpage that is within walking distance? I'm really keen to see this jet as it's my favourite F-14 scheme, which I am currently modelling. I've been trying to see as many preserved F-14s as I can - currently I've only seen 11 across the United States. Thanks again Dave
BaconRaygun
Dave, Yes.... sort of. There are a few public establishments about 1/4 mile west of the f-14. I suppose you can park there and walk over. You'll see what I mean if you look it up on Google maps.
Dave1089
Thanks, just did, there's a McDonalds not too far away, that should work just fine to get a few pictures! For limited time, would you recommend the Cradle of Aviation or American Airpower museums? Edited February 13, 2020 by Dave1089
BaconRaygun
Cradle of Aviation is definitely a bit larger and more like a big museum. American Air Power is a smaller operation with only a handful of aircraft. However, some of the aircraft at the American Air Power Museum are airworthy and flown for demonstration flights. You can actually get a ride in some of these aircraft, at certain times of year. The two are quite different.
Dave1089
That's great, thanks for the information, greatly appreciated. Dave
Moose135
I was back home on the Island in December and stopped by the Bethpage Tomcat. From the Google Maps image included, you can see a driveway off Grumman Road next to where the Tomcat is parked. There is a gate and guard booth, but the gate is locked and the booth empty - it was a weekday, and it looked like it's been closed for a while. We just parked in the driveway near the Tomcat to take some photos.
