echolmberg
Howdy folks! Just like the subject heading says, does anyone know what the diameter of the B-29 fuselage is? Was it 9'-8"? I'm talking about the main central portion of the fuselage, not any of the tapered part. Thanks! Eric
Slartibartfast
"Maximum fuselage diameter: 9 ft. 6 in." Took some sleuthing but found at http://all-aero.com/index.php/59-planes-b-c/1760-345-b-29-superfortress
echolmberg
Thank you Slartibartfast! I'm just starting to work on a Silverplate B-29. I was thinking that if I knew the fuselage diameter, I could possibly cut out the raised turret features on the Monogram B-29 and then 3D print my own replacement patches. Thanks again! Flankerman
Going off at a slight tangent........ The Russian Tu-95 'Bear' has the same fuselage diameter as the B-29. Both the Bear - and the Aero Spacelines 'Superguppy' - are lineal descendants of the B-29 ..... Ken
habu2
...as are the KB-50 and C-97 !
Flankerman
That's what I meant Habu2 - I should have added 'via the KB-50 and C-97' Similarly, with the Bear - it was via the Tu-4, Tu-80 and Tu-85 bombers. Fascinating lineage all round..... I should have posed the question.. "what links the Super Guppy to the Bear?" Ken
Spruemeister
Are the fuselage parts of the kit perfectly to scale? Might matter. Might not. Rick L.

I was wondering the same thing myself. Using AutoCAD, I quickly drew a 9'6" circle in 1/48 scale, printed it out, then cut the circle out from the paper. The cut-out area of the paper perfectly matched the circumference of the Monogram B-29. I was impressed! Eric
Spruemeister
Good to know! Rick L.
