CD48177 - 1/48 A-4M Skyhawk - Part 1

Recommended Posts

CD48177 will be a 1/48 sale sheet dedicated to the A-4M Skyhawk, hopefully the first in a series of Skyhawk sheets. I have a few options in mind, but will be open to your suggestions of A-4Ms that have not been made in decal form before. Only USN / USMC options on this first sheet.

I propose you set up a sheet with high-viz and another with low-viz M's. Plenty of nice high-viz schemes that have been under-represented to date 🙂

VMA-214 with the blue rudder on light gull gray over white is one I would like for sure 🙂 Another is VMA-211 Wake Island

I vote for anything low-viz, I am not sure what has not yet been done recently, but the very late stage A-4 in marine corps service is a fun weathering challenge.

Can’t believe Wake Island has not been done - are we sure? Thanks to all of you for the suggestions - a couple of them were in my plans but many were not.

I will definitely do VMA-211 Wake Island Avengers - it may have been done before, but it seems to be sold out and I think I could do a bit better. Please keep the suggestions coming.

There is always the VMA-223 jets when they had the  VMA-331 tail colours. Pretty sure these haven't been done (AFAIK)

There are other examples of this scheme, but this is on a "Super Mike" A-4M.

The main issue to be careful of is whether the aircraft is a Mike or a Super Mike. Only Hasegawa have released the kit as a Super Mike, but it was limited edition and long out of production. The easiest way to tell the Super Mike is the enlarged landing gear doors, and the scissor link on the MLG legs, if you can see them. The BuNo is also a giveaway if you know which ones to look for. These were BuNo 160036 and the final production batch of 160241-160264.

Wow such great news Kursad. You can tell I am excited for this as in my forum name, it is my favourite aircraft. I have many Skyhawk sheets but for some reason not many for the A-4M versions. I think it was probably because not many kits at the time. Lots of E/F versions though.

Looking forward to this and I better get off my butt and pick up the sheets you have now so it is not a big hit down the road when this comes out.
