Tamiya Olive Drab XF-62

Recommended Posts

After many years, I m doing a US military vehicle and picked up Tamiya XF-62 in 10ml bottle. I was expecting it to be somewhat greenish brown but it turned out to be more green than anywhere close to the shade I was used to. I m wondering if Tamiya has changed shade of color. I have Gunze Olive Drab too and that looks more realistic or I should say more familiar shade to me.

Has anyone noticed that?

Yes it looks too green.  Some people add dark yellow to adjust it.  Is the 304 lacquer that you now use?   I use it too but find it changes hue depending on the background.

Hi Stalal,

From a discussion that I had a couple of weeks ago with a friend about finding the best match for the FS-34087, he told me that Pactra's Olive Drab is a perfect match to the FS 595.

He also told me that if I cannot find it the closest match is the Model Master Acrylics Olive Drab (FS-34087).

Just my two cents.

Gunze has two Olive Drab shades. One for weapons, the other for US armour.

The one for US armour looks very realistic. That was the color I remember Tamiya was previously but a little towards brown. However, now the new Tamiya color is very green.

Not that this was part of the original poster's point/question, but Olive Drab is a mix of Black and Ochre, no green at all, though Ochre may have some amount of green buried in its composition.

How about a color swatch of those for us to compare to?

Unfortunately I couldn't find any swatches of Mr. Color or Gunze, but here is how Humbrol and Vallejo compare.
