Thanks Mamba!

As said before,I worked out the external load,in particular the missiles.

The Sparrow are those of the last Hase set,and I'm happy for the aspect with thin fin ecc...There the only work done ( apart clean up) comported the exhaust of the rocket motor: first I drilled a hole of appropriate diameter, succesively I've inserted a section of plastirod of 1mm diameter and drilled the rocket motor in order to rreate the small ring around the motor itself.

7hkhlu.jpg

The Python 3.

Here the first thing was obtain the clear dome for the missiles IR seeker.

Again I first drilled the nose;at this point I've stretched some clear sprue and painted silver;glued with CA in the missile hole, with a jewelry file I rounded the sprue and dipped a couple of time in Future and let dry "head down".In this way the Future builded a clear dome, very simple.

69yWr7.jpg

After the nose I modified also the exhaust, differentely from Winder and/or Sparrows the Python 3 exhaust isn't flush with the rear surface of the missile but inserted more deeply in the missile,so I drilled the hole, glued a 1mm diameter piece of plastirod followed by a small dish (punch%die) for the flat rear end.

1uxHE4.jpg

And the Pythons paint factory...

kcyAqo.jpg

Added the Magrefa rails to the wing pylons and some extra details with plasticard and Archer rivets. The Isradecals sheet provide some of this detail with his stencils, but as decals are too flat for me,so add this details for the correct volumes was important for my build 🙂

LNFYGd.jpg

Finally, inserted the Eduard PEs for the air intakes' ramp, the perforated parts add a lot of details to the final aspect. I carved the kit part of the same lenght of the PEs and glued in place,in this way the PE and the plastic of the kit part are on the same surface level

JWNs1m.jpg

Actually I've opened the lower M-61' access panel, so next I'll scratch the cannon motor and started to paint the missiles..

Now,I need a opinion.

As visible from this picture and this other, the Python forward fins assume different angles in respect of the missile' body axis, but this is easily to do with the separate PE fins of the Paragon set.

The big missile rollerons assume an even greater drooped position especially with the downward position of the Magrefa racks/rails assembly; in the last days the masochist idea of cut and reposition all the rollerons start to forming in my mind...this will for sure add something more about reality but is a little nerv-wrecking,especially for the fear of broke/lose something,so I ask your opinion guys...

For now, thanks to stop by and feel free to comment.

Stay healty gents,

Gianni

Dropping the rollerons will certainly add to the "reality of the subject, but it is also something that could easily go wrong so in the end it has to be your choice!

A really diplomatic ask!

But you're right; I choose to cut all the rollerons and the thing was quite simple after all. Now the Python are fully decaled, now need to glue the rear fins.

The fprward ones as the rollerons will be added only after the missiles will be glued in place

Thanks mate.

Ok since last time I scratched the visible part of the M-61 to put on the arming/inspection door under the right wing, no mini-Lerx,no...ehm,you know ahat I mean!

CGsH1W.jpg

Added/scratched new detail ( still to finish) under the canopy

5fnR0x.jpg

In the next image you can see the cannon compartment ( red arrow) and the wing pylons last details ( green arrow)

NNIPMt.jpg

The Python3: i opted to cut all the rollerons, less troublesome as anticipated, and painted the main body with a combination of MRP Light Blue, Pale Roundel Blue and a drop of White-

The second photo shoe the rear wings glued and the missiles fully decaled;these are a combination from the spare box and some brush paint as Paragon don't have any decals

v5kISI.jpg

ldCREj.jpg

Finally the Sparrows: the Israbook show some pics of the missiles with parts of the body in both grey and white and I think look nice so I painted mine this way:

Again in the second image the missiles fully decaled and with the wings painted in Alclad steel

cq7eRL.jpg

2NDjYP.jpg

That's all for now; while waiting fot the arriving of the Tamiya green cup glue, surely will finish up the missiles and probably start painting the pylons.

Thanks all for watch my friends and stay healty!!!

Nice progress on your Eagle. Excellent work on the missiles. One question, if I may: Being no expert on the Python 3 missiles, I suspect that missiles with blue bands and without the rollerons would indicate captive training rounds!? Why would the Eagle be still fitted with live Sparrows in combination with the captive Pythons? I‘m not saying it is impossible, but I find it hard to imagine the reasoning behind this mix.

Thanks ,

Joerg

Hi Joerg,

I don't know why,but live Python 3 have painted blue stripes; the Isra book is plenty of pics of F-15 flying real CAP and all the P3s are painted this way, IAF adopted a more USAF-ish colors for live missiles on the Python 4/5 .

The rollerons was cut away to be repositioned with various degree of angles as the real ones, depending of the inclination sof the weapons,  can assume drooped position, you can see real pics on one of the precedent post, scroll upward a bit this page for my link.

Gianni,

From what we've seen from you before, this is going to be spectacular. "No pressure"

because we know you've got this! I'm looking forward to seeing what and how, you're

going to be able to do with this project - in "Rocking the Eagle!"

Gianni,

If this were a 1/48 scale kit, your efforts would be amazing and rightfully so. But, you

being able to accomplish what you've done in 1/72 scale, is absolutely insane! It only

intrigues me to think, what the finished model will look like... "No Pressure!"

  • 2 weeks later...

Thanks guys!

With the glue finished,I was slowed down, but take the opportunity and paint the first sub assembly like pylons,etc...

This is the M-61,you can see that very few will be visible but I think that with an RBF hanging from it, the final result will be not too bad.

vESJmt.jpg

But the peincipal work done was paint and decalling the pylons and here the finish result;I think that the added details arent bad after all

mKTpkx.jpg

And there the mess of Sparrows,Pythons, rollerons and fins...

6J92mx.jpg

Excited and ready to store the weapons, I discovered that the carpet monster struck again; one of the Python rails simply vanished...after some consternation.sadness and some word that is better not repeat here,I started to think a solution: modify a Winder rail? No,too short. Use one from the AMK Kfir kit? No, details slightly different.

Only option scratch a new one. So using tha Paragon's as model to follow and some plastirod and plasticard, this is the final result, quite close I think, who do you think guys?

DKwvu1.jpg

When painted and decaled not too much difference will be evident. I was able to done the rails 'cause this week the lockdown was lifted in good measure and I bought a good escort of Tamiya glue, thinner and all I've finished during the quarantine, This, also, allow me to glue the main fuselage

ck7jAR.jpg

In reality I've actually moved forward, the main fuselage is already puttied, sanded and rescribed and start duelling with the forward fuselage join...

So in the next days I can show you something starting remember and Eagle!

Thanks for watch and feel free of commente as always,

Stay healty my friends,

Gianni

Good morning guys and thanks Bastian;

yesterday I've glued the main fudselage with the front one. As per other modeller,I already know that there the joining of the two parts create nasty seams and /or steps, and despite I tried to sand the plastic to allow a better fit, also my build don't except this "rule".

U6Tq8T.jpg

Fortunately un the upper part the sanding did the trick and the steps are limited on port side and the "hump" behind the cockpit...

4gmkzC.jpg

...but on the starboard side I've a big seam to fill!

jtlNiq.jpg

The lower fuselage: here the starboard side is almost perfect, with a very little seam that I managed almost immediately, but the port side have a step of almost 0,5mm...

3DJum4.jpg

And now on the opposite side, the exhaust area.

Here I glued the correct starboard tailboom without the ECM antenna. The lower part generated a discrete step that I managed with a piece of 0,13 plasticard and CA glue;all the area was sanded down and almost polished, as almost all this parts are in metal .

For some reason the central sting was damaged,so again plasticard and CA/talc powder mix was the weapons of choice to solve all.

t2hVlT.jpg

As side note I started paint the Aires exhaust, great detail as always and as always some sanding to adapt the resin to the kit... ( note that the parts aren' glued but only dryfitted.

4IReQc.jpg

And the new Python rail finished, the lower one is the scratched.

MzqHfT.jpg

Actually I've pratically finished to fill, sand and restore the panel lines of the fuselage/cockpit area so more progress soon ( hope).

A quick dry fit of the wings showed that one join is pratically perfect but the other one...but before I want solve the air intakes.

Thanks to stop by and stay safe my friends,

Gianni

Hi Gianni,

Can I know which Aires exhaust this is? The part number?  I've been looking for these, too.  But all the ones I've seen in 1/72 don't have the early turkey feathers.

Thank you.

Thanks guys, glad you like my work!

Jack, unfortunately I've thrown away the box, but if I remember well I've another set that I bought for my Netz of some time ago and one exhaust will be still in the blister,I'll control ASAP

Thank Gene and Qian, you're very kind!

As said I filled and sanded the joint of the main with the forward fuselage; the pics maybe don't show the smoothness of the parts but I assure you that is like glass now, thanks to the CA/talcum duo.

The port side required even a small strip of 0,13 mm plasticard to fill the step.

QjqUPX.jpg

NiRg6Q.jpg

sS9574.jpg

Also the speedbrake was filled and sanded in order to obtain the best fit, followed by some rescribing.

i1m5N9.jpg

As surely noted in the previous pics,I glued also the air intakes. I disregarded the instruction and proceded as follow: first I glued the inner half, followed by the vari-ramp and finally the outer half of the intakes.I worked a step at the time 'cause the vari-ramp required some sanding to accomodate in place, and even more the outer parts of the air intakes as the PE parts added extra material to be care of.

NcQJv2.jpg

Again, the huge gaps was filled with CA and talcum powder because dryng hard, easy my life for rescribing the join

LbyWRq.jpg

LraoQq.jpg

As side note,I've added the nav lights out of clear red sprue( think from some Gundam or Zaku kit).

39ddGW.jpg

And dry fitted the wings, now look more f-15-ish after all!

sSndXO.jpg

That's all for now,as the pics show the wings will require some attention, isn't surely a Tamiya kit!

I finished also the Sparrows and glued the Python rails to the pylons, started working on the fuel tanks and the ALQ-131 from the Revell F-16C

Thanks guys for your support, more progress as soon as possible my friends,

stay healty,

Gianni

And now, Gremlin more about the change depend from timeframe and aircraft' Block, but for a -C, externally you need the remove the ECM fairing on top of the port fin and replace it with an harminic balancer, like the one already present on the starboard fin.

If you will do a Block 35-36 bird ( recognizable by the serail number in the 5XX range for the Cs and 2XX for the Ds), the planes had rounded domes similar to those of the ALQ-135 mounted on USAF F-15C on the tail boom. You need also the repositioning the blade antennas under the nose area and remove the rounded one  behind the NLG.

For the new position of the antennas is better you choose a precise bird and simply work with relative references ( pics!).

The pit are pratically as per USAF standard at the time of delivery, the difference are for the two-seater tha had the rear office modified with additional MFD as was destined from the beginnig as operational plane with a attack vocation ( PGM ),and after tha Improved Baz upgrade, was painted for both one and two seater in black,I think for NVGs compatibility.

Hi Gianni, I forgot to say that my project is the same as yours 695 F-15A improved BAZ, with Sky decals at 90s timeframe. So ACES II is ok for Ejection Seat, but my doubts are about these things:

  • Wheels? in some pics, the wheels are different to F15C, and A model (hasegawa) have only the latter (C type), you will use a RESKIT set?
  • CFT: The A model did not include CFT but in Baz Book from Isradecals, says that after upgrade all models can use CFT.

thanks in advance, and your model looks amazing to date

cheers

Thanks Gremlin.

That's interesting as mine isn't a Improved Baz,so we have same airframe in different configuration.

The wheels: you right,A and C have different wheels. I ordered the Reskit ones, but was at the full lockdown here in Italy;I've checked the postal tracking just yesterday and look like if the package arrived here the 29 May,with some luck will be delivered soon...

The first batch Baz was retrofitted for CFT around 1985,so you can go with them, but I don't know where you can find any.

Iìve glued the wing in model and soon will work out this area adn yesterday started paint the fuel tanks,so pics soon guys.

Thanks,

Gianni

Hello gents!

The F-15 finally have its wings glued in place.

YD8m2G.jpg

As the dry fit revealed, the wings don't join too well, especially the port's...As visible,I added a first pieces of 0,13 plasticard to help fill the "canyon"!

1COSoE.jpg

Better fit for the starbord's, there the principal problem is a little step on the upper surfaces.

sTebgt.jpg

Actually,I've started the battle, one wing at time , to fill and sand down the areas in order to restore the clean lines of the F-15.

And there you can see the paint on the tanks, complete of a first layer of weathering using a  vinyl stencil.

mAEwBH.jpg

And just an hour or so after my previous reply to Gremlin, the Reskit wheels finally arrived, phew!

This was and order not only for the current build, but for other three F-15s I've in the stash.

50sgWz.jpg

And that's all for now my friends, some progress ASAP,

stay healty guys and thanks for stopping by.
