WWII French Aircraft Colors....

Recommended Posts

I have some WWII French Aircraft that I need help with colors (interior and exterior).  They are old kits and some don't list specific colors, especially interior. Never built a French aircraft before so any assistance is appreciated.

Leo 451

Breguet 693

Bloch 174

Potez 633

Hello

The French camouflage at the beginning of WWII had 4 colours most of the time and I use these close combinations from the Gunze Aqueous range:

Topside

Brown : 50% H84 / 50% H17

Green : 90% H73 / 10% White

Dark blue grey : 50% H53 / 40% H305 / 10% H54

Underside

Light blue grey : 70% H67 / 30% White

you can have two examples here :

Patrick,

Thank you for the reply.  Do you have a suggested interior color?

On french military airplanes, interior surface of cockpit was blue grey (pale to dark shade) until december 39.

Morane use "gris marin clair" (light blue grey) and Breguet, Potez, Latecoère & Dewoitine "gris bleu"

aft dec 39, "bleu de nuit" (midnight blue) replace  the blue grey.

The wheel well, oleo struts, inner side of ldg fairings of airplane, single or twin engine, receive a coat of same color as underside.

Inner side of engine cowling was same as underside(Breguet 691/693)

Interior of fuselage(except cockpit) and wings and other area unexposed to corrosion agents will be coated with "chamois" paint

except Br 691 which was it interior entirely blue grey.
