Sidewinder on the left, TACTS Pod on the right.

If you are only doing the TACTS Pod (one), the pod will be on the left.

Thank you so much ! I am blessed to have a master for reference. The TACTS pod look like a missile without fins. Dai

My pleasure.

TACTS Pods used the body of a AIM-9, that's why they look like a missile without the wings/fins.

Hello everyone...

Closer to completion. Had to order a new sheet of decal for the fuse walk way as the instruction on the decal sheet is wrong ( right should be left and vise versa). I wondered why panels lines do not line up as they should be. Got the Hasegawa Weapon set D and completed the TACTS pod. Dai

Don't know if it's the pic but the pod looks red, it should be international orange. 😉

The instruction of the Hasegawa indicates red as well as box pictures and I could not find a picture on the Net anywhere. Do you know the FS number? I may attach it via white glue and for easy removal for repainting. Thanks you Sir! Dai

PS: Is this the orange you are referring to like color on the wing tip tank?

Yes, the same orange as the tanks on that F-104, the color is international orange FS 12197

Here are a few pics of the pod

Hello,

I finally got some pictures off the Net (wonder why I was not able to see them?) and they are deep orange like red. I have an orange bottle that I will deepen it with red. Dai

Happy Friday everyone...

All painted ready for installing to the plane... It is strange that Hasegawa only provide enough decals to do 2 GBU-12 while there are 6 of them ! The same goes for the TACTS pod. One set of decals for ONE while there are 2 in the set. WTH??? Dai

PS: The pod was repainted in the international orange.

Putting drop tanks on station 1 and 8 isn't really accurate, no one really put drop tanks on 1 and 8 unless they are ferrying the aircraft somewhere.

Also, the FLIR Pod wasn't in service for the time frame you are doing (1977) so if you are going for a historically accurate load out you might want to leave it off.

Here's a load out that would be accurate;

Station 1 and 8 - GBU-12

Station 2 and 7 - MER

Station 3 and 6 - Drop Tank (or if you want Drop Tanks on station 3 and FLIR Pod on station 6 but it won't be historically accurate)

Station 4 and 5 - AIM-9G/H

The above load out would be historically accurate and just a recommendation.

BTW: The loading diagrams in the kit instructions aren't very accurate, they tend to lean to what is physically possible to be loaded then to what was actually authorized.

Hi,

Do you have a photo on how the GBU-12 is attached to the outer pylons ( stations 1/8)? I cannot find on the Net. The GBU -12 mounting may involve entirely differtent pylon that what is on this kit and/or additional rack. Thanks Dai

The body of the GBU-12 is a standard Mk82 bomb.  It attaches to the pylon in the same way as a normal Mk82.

The stations 1/8 do not have the MER racks as the racks are placed onto stations 2/6. Dai

Load the GBU-12's directly to the wing station pylons you have installed, no extra suspension equipment (bomb racks) required.

When I was in A-7's we always flew GBU-12's on (what's called) parent rack pylon, we only used MER/TER's for GP Bombs, CBU's (Mk 20/CBU-59), Rocket Pods, Flare Pods, and practice bombs.

That doesn’t matter.  You can load a single bomb directly to the pylon.  The suspension system is the same as on a MER or TER.

Thank you! It is strange I cannot find a single photo of how the GBU -12 or TACTS pod in relation to the pylon and the missile rail on the Web. Dai

Go by the top picture, orange pod (right wing pod).

The pod on the left wing and the second pic is an ARDS Pod, it is shorter than a TACTS Pod.

A TACTS Pod will extend about three inches past the end of the launcher, an ARDS Pod does not extend past the end of the launcher.

Load the pod with about 1.5 mm extending past the back end of the launcher and you will have it loaded correctly.

Thank YOU all so much for helping me of my current project. Anyone on Columbia SC area please come over for all the beers and delicious food ( please visit my FB). I will need to stop by my local hobby shop for a bottle of gold paint to finish of the TACTS pod before final assembly. Dai
