Raptor01
Is this old news, first I heard of this. https://youtu.be/SCVi5pbM-tQ John
southwestforests
Apparently not "old" news; plugged Germany super hornet in to Google and on the first 2 pages of results all but 2 articles were dates in 2020 and the 2 outliers dated 2019 were pondering what decision Germany might ultimately make. There were 3 undated results, 2 for retailers selling model kits & Boeing's own page about Super Hornet. Hajo L.
Well, I initiated this.... 😉 No, to be serious, the German Luftwaffe needs new aircraft to replace the Tornado. There have been some different options (with the F15 an dthe F35 ruled out in the process), and now it looks like we will purchase a mix of Super Hornets (and hopefully some Growlers) and updated Eurofighters/Typhoons. There have been some published articles at the end of march that indicate that the political decision by the MoD had been made, but there is still some "unrest" in the governing "grand coalition". With the current economic downfall due to Corona and of course the never ending story of "staying nuclear or not" (the Tornado is part of the "nuclear participation", beeing able to deliber B61s) there is enough potential for political quarrels in the next years. And the Tornado does not get any younger during that.... HAJO
polybebber
I think Germany has the least capable airforce of all Europe and NATO. Knowing the leaders of the MOD and other politicans I'm afraid we will degrade into an almost none existent status. The problems by the MOD acquiring enough and decent supplies of boots for the soldiers speak for themselves. Corona will do the rest. Lothar
Scott Taylor
This appears to be one step closer to happening: https://www.defense-aerospace.com/articles-view/release/3/210694/german-defense-minister-commits-to-buying-f_18s-to-replace-tornado.html 30 F-18E/Fs and 15 EA-18Gs. Lothar This is typical German self degrading and an absolutely unsubstantiated statement. We are far from having the least capable airforce. What the force itself is rendering is capable enough under the given circumstances and the proficiency of the soldiers themselves is properly credited within NATO. What is getting constantly in the way of turning the force into a really competitive force are the well documented political quarrels and the animosity about German defence politics but that doesn't say anything about the condition of the airforce. You should know yourself that some of those articles that claimed the poor readiness state are just lurid and poorly researched spin articles that don't reflect the situation accurately. The Luftwaffe could do way better, that is true but it is good enough compared to others.
