sideshow
I'm really looking for something that ships from the US. Any shops that can respond would be appreciated or if anyone has a few packages they'd like to sell. Need small metal paint dishes. Thank you!
Bob Beary
Amazon has them...10 for $3.00. Bob
sideshow
True, but they're based overseas and delivery is 3 weeks away. I'd like to find a domestic shop to buy from, even if more expensive. thanks.
Mstor
What about these... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0061OSVFU/?coliid=I1EOA4Y2I0970J&colid=2Y6HORPJ2MKWE&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it&th=1 Not exactly the same, but still could be used as paint trays. They are cheap and you get 100 for a about $12.00. Don't know how much shipping is as I'm a Prime member and would get them shipped free by Wednesday. They come in 3 sizes too. If you don't like the crimped sides, here are some smooth side ones... https://www.amazon.com/Disposable-Aluminum-Smooth-Weighing-Dish/dp/B00VKHQDW6?ref_=s9_apbd_otopr_hd_bw_bLWcMN&pf_rd_r=RMXTY5RXWX8N36N9Y99R&pf_rd_p=ec40b5e9-89d2-5534-8ab0-7185da86fa73&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-10&pf_rd_t=BROWSE&pf_rd_i=318077011 A little more expensive but still a deal as you get 100 of them for about $21.00. Another useful item for mixing small amounts of paint are these... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XC92JQ5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Tattoo ink caps, 500 for about $17.00. I use them a lot and have barely put a dent in my supply after 2 years.
Bob Beary
Do those tattoo ink cups stand up to lacquer paints? Thanks, Bob

They're great for mixing up small amounts of paint for airbrushing, like when you just need to touch an area. I use them for mixing up small amounts of pin washes. Just about anything where you only need to work in small amounts. Like I said, very handy to have around.
Scott Smith
Ive been using little 1 oz. ketchup cups from the local Wendy's. But mixing up very small quantity has been a problem. Might have to order some of those small tattoo cups.

The one ounce plastic med cups sold by hobby companies like Tamiya and Gunze can be bought in bulk for much cheaper. Just make sure you are getting the ones made out of plastic resilient to solvents like lacquer thinner. The name of the plastic escapes me. I think its Polypropylene. Here is 400 for $14.80. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075VMWJ3H/?coliid=I28R744BT88JMX&colid=2Y6HORPJ2MKWE&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it&th=

It’s not the chemical make up or lacquer thinner melting them. Look close at the pic. See those three tiny plastics protrusions at the bottom built in to keep the cups from getting stuck together? They can cause a disaster mixing paint. I use small dowels from wood cotton swabs after I’m done with them. I was mixing a tiny bit of paint and hit one of those and it splattered paint all over my shirt, bench and model I was painting. The one’s like that I have left over I just use the bottom of to mix up tiny bits of epoxy or putting some CA glue or canopy glue on and use another whittled down cotton swap stick to apply to extremely small areas. Never noticed those, I use a heavy piece of metal cut from a metal clothes hanger to mix paints. In any case, if you are mixing real small amounts you might try the tattoo ink cups as you noted above. They have a smooth interior and a nice flange around the bottom for increase stability. Plus, they are cheaper.

Mstor
I cannot lie, I found out about the tattoo ink cups from another modeler's post somewhere. I just can't remember who or where.
sideshow
Just an update. I ended up ordering these... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07KFH9G2Y/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Used them this weekend and they're great. Used them with lacquer thinner and they had no problem handling it. Thinner evaporated before any melting occurred. Very happy.

The ones I ordered have a little wider area on the bottom than the one in that photo. Probably doesn't make that much difference. They are handy though, aren't they.
