CD48188 - 1/48 Air National Guard P-47

@mungo1974

Way to go! I haven't seen that photo before.  It says "U.S. Air Force" on the tail.  Could this have been when they first received the aircraft in 1947, or perhaps during a period of federalization during the Korean War?  The 133rd sent 2, 3, & 4 plane dets to Dow AFB & Presque Isle AFB Maine during the Korean War period.

Thanks,

Dutch

After a very long lunch, here’s the Delaware Guard.

I have been working on a kit bash of the Tamiya M and the Academy N and was going to paint/raid decal stash for the markings, but if Kursad included them on his sheet, I would just use those! 😉

ProModeler (i.e. Revell-Monogram) did release a 1/48 F-47N decal [#88100200200] to go with their 1/48 P-47N kit, which featured five F-47N in ANG service:

#44-89051/Eadie Mae of the 147th FIS, PA ANG;

#44-89347 of the 101st FIS, 102nd FIG, MASS ANG;

#44-89408, 44-89357, & 44-89369 of the 128th FIS, GA ANG

 But then you’d have to use crappy Monogram decals! 😉

What "crappy Monogram decals"?  Ain't nothin' wrong with the Promodeler decals, other than maybe having a difficult time finding them.

Thanks Joe for setting the record straight.  My friend built both GA & Mass F-47N kits using ProModeler decals and they turned out real nice.

Anyway, I found out that the 133rd FIS was activated to Federal service from 1 Feb 51 through 1 Nov 52 to backfill USAF units that transferred personnel and aircraft to Korea. They flew the F-47D while the 132d FIS Maine ANG & 134th FIS Vermont ANG had both converted to F-51D/H Mustangs. Maine actually flew F-80Cs for about two years before relinquishing them to active forces.  So the U.S. AIR FORCE on the tail of 44-33643 may be correct for this time period.

Thanks Dutch, it was disappointing, especially since the Promodeller N is a popular kit, but I moved on!  I’ve got 3 kit bashed Tamiya/Academy N’s on the to-finish shelf.

Mine were printed out of register, and a good portion of the kit was short shot, so I pitched the whole thing in the trash.

That stinks.  The PM P-47N is a bit fiddely to build, but ends up looking nice.  FWIW, the ANG P-47 decals didn't come with the kit; they were sold aftermarket.

How's the fit of the Academy wings to the Tamiya fuselage?  That looks like a pretty straightforward operation.
