Revell RAH-66 Comanche 1/48

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys!

My name is Oliver and this is my first Thread in this forum. I am 30 years old and come from Germany. In the last weeks I read some Threads/questions about Comanche helos in this forum. I built the Revell kit in 2017 so I decided to show it here. Maybe it will help other model builders build this pretty cool helo.

The kit is from Revell and a typical of its kind. The rough shape fits quite well, but the details need some extra work. That's why I have made some improvements here, including:

- Hellfire missiles from Eduard
- Use of self-cast Stinger missiles
- Minigun from Master
- Pitot tubes from a 1/72 F-15 Eagle
- "Covering" the weaponbays
- Cover all openings with mesh
- Saw off and re-glue the fenestron blades
- Almost complete scratchbuild of the cockpit
- Detailing the landing gear as well as the wheels
- Use iridescent films from AFV-Club for the front optics

The cockpit in particular took a lot of time. On the outside, the model is a bit more modeler-friendly. Due to the smooth stealth shape, the work on the outer shell is somewhat limited. You really can't blame Italeri/Revell. Measured by age, military secrecy and the fact that the original only made it to the prototype stage, the information situation was probably rather poor. If you want to know more, I recommend the construction report:

It's written in German, but maybe one or another picture might be interesting. If you like to see more of my models (especially helicopters), just let me know 🙂 .

Best regards
