RedCrown
I'm just wondering what some of the techniques and paints that you guys use for painting the fins on the missiles. Do you paint the fins first or the missile first? What color and paints do you use?
Jamie Cheslo
I always start with the fins. I like to airbrush Tamiya or MM Acryl acrylics. Once the fin colours are thoroughly dried, I carefully mask with thinly cut strips of Tamiya tape (which can be a bit of a tedious process, but I know of no other effective way) then I airbrush the colour of the missile body. I do the same process if the nose section of the missile is a different colour. Hope this helps!
weirich1
Bodies first then seeker heads, radomes, fins, exhausts Edited May 5, 2020 by weirich1
dnl42
I guess I'm between @Jamie Cheslo and @weirich1. Fins first. Mask the fins, because they're easy to mask. Then body. Mask the body, again easy to mask. Then nose cone as that's all that's left.
RedCrown
Thanks for the replies. What color do you paint the fins? Im thinking maybe gunmetal or titanium alclad?

Doesn't that depend on what type of missile it is? Different missiles, different colors.

Same with with the heads. Live warheads would be a different colour than dummy ones, for example. You need to look at your references if you are striving for accuracy.
