picknpluck
My question remains: what does it mean when decals are silk screened? Is there a difference in the way they are applied?
habu2
Silk screen refers to a printing technique. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screen_printing

Is there a difference in the way they are applied? It's classic technique and 95% of decals produced by the technique. Laser decals produced by laser printer with white toner. The main difference - film entire all sheet and need to cut every element by knife or scissor.
uprise.decals
It's example of my work - Airbus A350-1000 Virgin Atlantic decal+masks. When I work with a project I'm trying to predict any troubles: - masks for rear fuselage. It's so complicated to make the area correct and identical for both side. - the mask has key-mask for correct place - Virgin Atlantic bands produced by masks because the colour is so complicative and the elements are so big. Decal lives only 20-30 sec. and it's only time to place it correctly. After that it's time for battle.))) But after that you need to fight with sparkles and wrinkles. After all it's need to burn the decal by Microsol/Microset. And you needs airbrush work to hide so big decal... So many chances to damage so big decal or surface and the result doesn't guaranteed. With the mask it's possible to place them ad lib, to change the position, to return to start point. And NO decal's background. 🙂 - Virgin band for tail produced by mask too because the red background will appear through white colour. The mask provides ability to keep absolutely white colour. 🙂
