Flying Leathernecks Decals 1/72, 1/48, 1/32 corrected F/A-18 pylons coming soon

Recommended Posts

These will be 3D printed and based off of measurements of the real pylon. They correct the shape and details of every available pylon provided in various kits.

There will be a total of four different sets (details are different on all of the pylons) in all three scales, 1/72, 1/48 and 1/32. Prices are to be determined and projected release date is later this month after stock is built up. First batch came off the printer a couple hours ago and they printed as designed.

More updates will be posted on our Facebook page throughout the week.

Kudos to you for making the first pylon Ive ever seen with the proper detail in it for the release mechanism

Our good friend and outstanding modeler Richard VanZandt did the masters and he had excellent references for the BRU-32. I worked on the pylon (and BRU) for several years in the Marine Corps and provided all of the measurements, drawings and photos.

Our new 3D printed pylon compared to the Hasegawa kit supplied pylon.

It looks very large when compared to the rest of the model.
Im sure it must be in scale to itself, but is the kit itself in scale?

The photo makes it look larger than what it actually is. If you look at the second photo where they're side by side, our new pylon isn't that much bigger than the kit part.

The BRU-32 bomb racks installed in the SUU-63's have small slots that represent the 14 and 30 inch suspension hooks found on the real item.

When you attach our Mk-83 1000lb bombs, the suspension lugs fit perfectly giving you the most accurate representation possible.

I did wonder if it was just the effect of the camera angle as, like you say,  the two parts dont look all that much different in size when placed side by side.

Revision 2, change 3!

See, I used to work on SUU-62's and SUU-63's at MALS-11, MALS-41 and MALS-42 Ordnance. However, the last time I touched one was in 2005 and I've forgotten a few things. Thankfully, several current Navy and Marine Ordies reached out and provided the necessary information to get these right. As an Ordnanceman, I can't let this stuff go uncorrected.

So, this is the updated release list of the F/A-18 pylons :

FL48-8013 1001/1021 F/A-18A/B pylons for BuNo's 161353 thru 163175

FL48-8014 1003/1027 F/A-18A+/A++/C/D pylons for BuNo's 163427 thru 163782

FL48-8015 1005/1033/1041/1043 F/A-18C/D pylons for BuNo's 163985 thru 165532

Those look really good, might have to buy a kit to use them on! I know you are doing a bunch of Hornet sheets, any chance a couple of early A’s from -314 and -323 aboard Coral Sea in ‘86 might get squeezed onto a sheet?  Maybe a -451 bird from ‘89 on the carrier’s final deployment for good measure?

Hello. This looks really nice. If you only could do this once again for all 1/32 scale F-4 Phantom II Inboard and outer  pylons, detailed like these.

Please!

Magnificent works on this. Have to purchase these sets (and some planes to attach them).

Love  the new era of  spelling techniques.

Kind regards,

Robert Jan

These look super, Dave!

I will be ordering a few for sure! I have several Hasegawa's and a Kinetic waiting to be built...
I can see how your wing pylons even will finally give the external tanks the correct nose downward attitude (in line with the wingtip launch-rail angle).
Excellent work, Dave!
