Bounce
it begins again.... This was a partial build I disassembled to move cross country and then back 🙂  I remember on first assembly: aww heck, the doors are in the fuselage mold... dejection ensued.  I will update this first post with new pics until complete. looks like facebookie url links to pics go stale after a while so I will need to figure that out too.  ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ reference picture links:  http://www.primeportal.net/hangar/don_busack/oh-6/  http://www.primeportal.net/hangar/don_busack/oh-6/index.php?Page=2  https://www.ipms.nl/walkarounds/walkaround-helicopters/1976-walkaround-cayuse  http://www.williammaloney.com/Aviation/NavalAirStationWildwoodAviationMuseum/HughesOH6CayuseHelicopter/pages/01HughesOH6CayuseHelicopter.htm  Google Books, search for "Organizational maintenance manual: electronics equipment configuration Army" and "Operators manual: helicopter, observation OH-6A" and: "Direct and general support maintenance manual: armament subsystem" thanks to member Santiago for posting this in his oh-6a Wip thread 10 yrs ago.  found solid gold with this thread "Pranged Little Birds" for interior pics made easy the hard way:  http://www.warbirdinformationexchange.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=617409 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++   16 years later I have battery dremel tool and just got these disks... chop cut rebuild!    I did some floor and door work...having fun. 🙂   first version tranny attempt....  some pics online have a big box under the port side rear seat... might be on the right side too. optional I guess melted sprue to pull across the rear deck   using spare parts from sprue collection or leftovers/junk box.  Is that supposed to be belted ammo boxes on the rear firewall on the original Revell cayuse rear bulkhead?   wellp, they're moved now...  I stole a radio from someone's helicopter and put it in mine. don't tell the FAA.   1/32 and 1/48 apache cockpit details have been cut from my junk pile to make some semblance of center console  I gotta remove that lower gray gauge cluster I think...based on ref pics   scratch match tater tranny. I did take a peek at my unbuilt Dragon loach to try and get some realism idea of what goes on in the rear passenger compartment.     snapped a rotor blade in half trying to put some bow in the blades. She's brittle! midnightprowler
What markings? Might I suggest using a razor knife next time? Cleaner cuts with less cleanup. Looking forward to this.
Bounce
🙂 yes suggest away my good man!  yes, I started dreml with composite cutting disk with the expected burl/heat build up. Just got in the cutting blades pictured and they're much nicer on cuts shown on right side of pic.  what is this razor knife of which you speak!?  please show picture.  Markings?  not sure, I might pick out some loach from the Gunslingers/Lou Drendel book, or one of my Scout pilot biography books on the book shelf. I really liked the name Electric Olive.  thanks for posting!
Tank
I would recommend the JLC saw. http://umm-usa.com/onlinestore/product_info.php?products_id=35&osCsid=e030d1417ae5cbf4ac8325ce34787939
JohnEB
I built one back in the day with civil "Easter egg" markings. As I recall it was a nice kit, but the interior was for the civil model and basic by today's standards. Â It was a good companion to the 1/32 INC Jet Ranger and Revell UH-1D/H Huey. HeavyArty
The old ICM/Revell/Monogram 1/32 Jet Ranger (as with the Cayuse) was really a pretty aweful kit. They lack any fine details and are pretty blooby. They were good for the '70s, but are nowhere near current (or 1990s) mold standards. To me, the only one that is really worth building is the Huey, and it is only marginally better than the Panda/Dragon 1/35 Huey. They can come out pretty nicely, but take a lot of work to be even passable.  Here is what you get w/the Jet Ranger.  Edited June 5, 2020 by HeavyArty

Bounce
The Cobras fall in line with detail level of the Hueys as well I think.....

HeavyArty
I have built all the ones you are listing/interested in over the years.  The AH-1G Cobra is on the same level of detail as the OH-6 and Jet Ranger in my opinion. In my opinion, only the Cobra is somewhat worth building since it is the only large-scale AH-1G available. Even then, I did/will again replace the entire cockpit with Cobra Company parts and replace a lot of the exterior details with CC and other resin parts and PE. Then it is acceptable to me.   The Jet Ranger can be brought up to a decent level, but it takes work. Out of the box it is very basic and lacks a lot of details.  If you want a good OH-6, Dragon's are very detailed and up to '90s mold standards. Kitty Hawk's new AH/MH-6J and AH/MH-6M are very nice.  For a good OH-58/Jet Ranger, I would recommend backdating the Academy OH-58D. It is very nice and well detailed.  Even the Huey is a toss up between it and the Panda/Dragon Hueys.  If you like doing these ancient kits, more power to you. I don't see the point with newer, more detailed, better molded versions on the market. Bounce
heh, I bought these in 2004?...when I had hobby money. Â I hope they make good exterior paint / shelf models. Â IIRC, I grabbed an m21 system from you years back! Â cheers! Edited June 5, 2020 by Bounce

Rotorman
I think the beam between the two pieces of plexiglass windshield  is a bit off. I believe it  can be fixed. I do have that kit too and plan to start it someday. Such a cool  helo. Oliver
Bounce
great pic. online or yours? that's some heli-fishing awesomeness.  yessir, growing up in the 70-80s....the Jet Ranger was in the air in miami, FL a lot. I remember them picking up bank bags on poles above local banks. fun to watch
hawkwrench
It would be nice if an aftermarket company would create a backdated OH-58 set using the MRC kit as a bass.  Tim

midnightprowler
I was referring to a standard hobby knife. I lightly follow the panel lines with the sharp edge for a couple of passes then turn it around and scribe with the back of the blade until cut through.
Rotorman
Tamiya has a great set of various saws and so does Hasegawa. Â Edited June 6, 2020 by Rotorman
GeejeeZ
Whenever I get the opportunity I buy these 1:32 OH-6's or JetRangers. Although it's true they lack interior detail, they build up ok and make me feel like a kid again. And, in case of the JetRanger: while still anxiously awaiting Italeri's re- release of the 1:48 Esci JetRanger, the occasional Revell JetRanger is the only game in town. I have built several, and as Oliver says: the beam between the front windows looks too clunky. IIRC the Revell 1:32 Huey had exactly the same problem. On some Revell JetRanger kits I have replaced the outdated low skid landing gear by Heli-Scale-Quality high skid landing gear. They also have high skid gear for the OH-6 if you'd wish so.  Good luck on your build Bounce!
Bounce
thanks for the info! I will seek out those high skids... I've been side tracked with vodka and a partial build of JetRanger I picked up on Ebay with some broken up huey, a Puma and Apache parts...  I've been playing with my new saws, blades and dremel. much fun ensuing.  so far specs on franken chopper are: bell 206 airframe, single pilot twin lycoming t53-L-13 engines @ 1300shp ea huey d model upper tail and TR shaft housing apache stub pylon wings 5" "diameter" heavy landing skids (sprue built) m230 gun agm-114s 2.75 hydra/apkws xm-18s  (I'm a intermediate basic builder I;d say...so it's one step above crayon and staple parody build 🙂 )       Edited June 16, 2020 by Bounce
