I've done almost no airliners in my life, so I need advice if I actually undertake this.  What currently is the best DC-9-30 series kit? I know Airfix is the old classic, but I'm also seeing one by Fly, and I think maybe another I might have glimpsed somewhere....  What does current experience recommend as the better choice?

Hello,

The Fly kit you mention is nice, it features fine recessed details, a nicely faceted windshield, resin antennas and photoetched parts but it suffers from slightly too big main wheels/too thick main gears/too fat engines and too thick wing root. It is not necessarily that visible but once I saw it, I could not "un-see" it. Anyway it still builds into a very nice DC-9-30 kit.

The Eastern Express kit is IMHO the best, very refined, beautiful recessed details (but fragile nose gear and some flashes here and there), it improves on all the weak points on both Airfix and Fly kits but can come quite pricey if you order it outside Russia.

You also have the Authentic Airliners resin kit which is as nice and accurate than the Eastern Express kit but difficult to obtain and comes with no decal sheet.

I went with the whole Eastern Express DC-9/MD-80/MD-90 collection and did not regret it.

Cheers !
