WIP Academy 1:72A Tomcat

Recommended Posts

Hi,

As requested, this will be my WIP thread for the new tool F-14A. I've not done one of these kits or threads before, but as previously stated it will most likely be me glueing my fingers together, losing small parts or breaking important ones!!!

The decals included are for BuNo 159434/AE100 of VF-143 "Pukin Dogs" USS America, circa 1976.

I am going to do this one as a VF-142 "Ghostriders" machine and was hoping to do it in the later all "Dark Ghost" grey scheme (depending on if i can source some decals, no luck so far 😞 ) but worse comes to i have these old Italeri ones (for the mid 80s scheme) which is better than nothing!!

Yeah, following this closely! I will order mine next week, and I have in mind to do some "What-if"-project... Did I saw a LANTIRN-pod among the many parts of the kit?

Have managed to get the cockpit/front section done:

Although the kit only has instructions for the  F-14A,  they've very clearly included parts for a B or D 🙂

Thank you!

The instrument panels look like after-market parts - but I´m sure it´s OOB. How did you do that??? It´s awesome!

HAJO

They are OOB, just applied with a little Micro-sol to get them to conform to the cockpit 🙂

More progress....

Engines constructed and placed inside the casing, then into the lower fuselage, holes drilled for weapons etc

and wings put together. It says they shouldnt swing, but if you either use the deflated wing bladder parts, or cut a small part out of the "cog" they will do 😉

Great, I somehow missed the decals...

So, the wings can be modelled movable, but they are not syncronized, right?

HAJO

Sorry, I've just seen I put completely the wrong pics on!! First the same shot twice, but also that was  a test shot and the wings are upside down!!!

Will put the proper ones on tomorrow!!!

Hi, did you already mount the landing gear?

vJCt4VS.jpg

Luckily I realized that the front gear would only suit on a flying aircraft, since it is completely de-compressed! The gap you can see in my picture is the length of the part I already cut out of the hydraulic cylinder. I glued it on again and it´s looking much better now.

landing gear will go on last as id sprayed it white earlier in the process!!

Its odd that they only offer the one option for the gear as the Hasegawa one gives you compressed and de-compressed options.

Managed to get it sprayed with Mr Finishing surfacer 1500 Black a couple days ago, hopefully main coat to go on today
