F14SRCOOL
Hi all im building the big tamiya f4J phantom and decided to go aftermarket with the exhaust nozzles. However think i bought the wrong set! Need sone guidance. The nozzles look correct but not sure about the other parts. Can i use parts for fan for intake and exhaust or are they a later version j79?? Set i bought is the eduard brassin Usaf late set https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/153426358485
Dave Williams
The exhausts are OK for a F-4J, but the intake fans are different between the USN and USAF. The USN engine doesn’t have the two angled supports for the center “bullet”.
BillS
I’m being pedantic here. the answer is the compressor face supplied in your kit has a -17 (USAF) constant speed drive distinguishable by the two struts at the 5 and 7ish o’clock position. The -10 had a different fairing without the struts. The nozzles are identical on both and that’s the most noticeable feature. You should be able to search images of the -10 compressor face and simply make the corrections without too much bother.
