Allan31
I completed this about a year ago, thought some of you would enjoy... I found this on-line and snapped it up as I love this movie and kits from the film are scarce. This is the "Atomic City" offering. I didn't like the layout of the astronaut and monolith as it came in the kit, I wanted more interaction between the two. I started cutting and hacking and sticking back together with sticky-putty until I found something I liked. I corrected mistakes in the kit and scratched the remaining missing bits... I added additional footprints with spackle paste and made the base smaller to take less shelf space. Surgery came out well and I started painting using movie stills for reference. Dead flat on the Monolith looked wrong so I went to a satin sheen that matches the look of the movie much better. I think I'm a little dark on the wash on the suit, we'll see how much sleep I loose and decide if I will fix it or not. I also just now realized I forgot the thin clear air-hose that connects the back-pack to the helmet, humph.... I also found the EVA pod Borman uses to retrieve Poole's body. I have the pod, Borman inside and found a "Dead Poole" figure online, all in the same 1/12th scale. Thanks everyone for scrolling down this far !!..... ExchefAndy
Such an iconic piece! Wow, I'd love to have that among my collection. You've captured something that only imagination understands. And then I think about trying to explain that scene to the kids.... Beautiful work, absolutely fantastic Andy

Allan31
Thanks all. I hunted up the pod and "dead Poole" to mount on it in the stash, all the same scale.
