Hajo L.
Does anyone have any resources or better pictures of the argentinian A-4Q that was painted with a sort of "dazzle camo"? Can be seen here in the centre: Thanks! HAJO
juanchopancho
Just googled A-4Q 3-A-309 https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/3.ª_Escuadrilla_Aeronaval_de_Caza_y_Ataque#/media/Archivo:Skyhawk-CANA_(2854142401).jpg http://aeronavespreservadasdelaaviacionnaval.blogspot.com/2012/09/douglas-4q-skyhawk-3-309.html There is one photo but it's black & white in the book titled Skyhawks Over the South Atlantic by Santiago Rivas. Apparently it was test camo towards the end of the war but this aircraft never saw action in the war because it was under maintenance.
Hajo L.
Thanks a lot, very helpful! Any idea what the base color is? A brown? A tan? Sand? HAJO Edited October 7, 2020 by Hajo L.
juanchopancho
Book says grey with with a mottled pattern of brown and olive green.
Hajo L.
Sounds logic, although some of th epictures and graphics leave the impression of a more tan or brownish base. HAJO
RedArrow
A rough 'n ready internet translation of this page (https://www.taringa.net/+apuntes_y_monografias/douglas-a-4q-en-la-armada-argentina_13j8kc) says "In September 1982 this strange scheme consisting of a light brown base with a dark brown mottling was tested. As far as it is known, only the 3-A-309 was painted in this way and subjected to evaluation tests, finally this camouflage was not adopted". And here's a fellow modeller's take on the same aircraft: https://maquetas.mforos.com/353330/11136403-a4-q-3-a-309-atigrado-1-48/
Hajo L.
Bummer! I already did my Skyhawk and used grey as base. You learn something new every day... 😉 HAJO

John Tapsell
If the tests were done in September 1982, that makes it 'post war', rather than 'late war'. (conflict was 2 April - 14 June). Edited February 13, 2021 by John Tapsell
