Tip's for "Sticky" Decals

Recommended Posts

First time using decals from Avioelogy.  Great decals but they have one issue.  They stick to the model immediately.  Makes it very difficult to nudge the decal into it's final position.

Any tips on this would be greatly appreciated.

Wet your finger with saliva and dab some on the area. Sounds gross, but it does work.

Or use lots of water.

Or put a very small drop of dish soap into the water that you put on the area.

When faced with decals like this, I never put any decal setting solutions under the decals as you normally might do. I use just water.

Thanks Bob..  I've been using Micro Set prior to laying the decal down.  That might be part of the issue.

Plain water has high surface tension and does not like to get under the decals.

I put one drop of Dawn liquid soap on a cup of water and it makes the water slide under any decal. It is also very good for thinning water based paints.

The soap makes a huge difference.

I was having the same issue and the drop of soap worked.

Should I apply microsol once the water dries, or just clear coat it?

How long should I let the decals dry? (just learned an hour isn't long enough)
