44th EFS....Deployed C-models nose art

Recommended Posts

About to publish a new print featuring more Eagle nose art, this time from the light gray side.  This print will be available from Third Offset Designs starting this Friday, 23 October.  Just as with all Third Offset Designs' nose art prints, you can order direct here:  https://third-offset-designs.myshopify.com/

Check out this outstanding nose art from the 44th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron and AMU! Recently returned from CENTCOM AOR, these C-models followed the lead of many of their E-model predecessors, and added some incredible artwork to their jets. Third Offset Designs is pleased to help recreate this art, and preserve this Air Force heritage.

When did the bats become a expeditionary force squadron?  When I was last in the 44th,  in the 80s, we were a tactical fighter squadron and were assigned to the 18th T.F.W. at Kadena.  Where are they assigned now and is it a permanent or T.D.Y. assignment?

It's a McPeek-ism.

They were the "lead" unit and should have had augmentation from other units, as such they are an EFS.

Stupid, but management hasn't changed it yet.

44FS is still attached to the 18Wing based at Kadena, Japan. "Tactical" was dropped back in -92ish.

All units deploy, some more than others. The 555FS based at Aviano, Italy, deployed to South Korea back in June 2007. For a European based unit that is just about as far out of the norm as the 44FS deploying to the Middle East😉
