Fighting Eighty-Four
Hi Everyone! Back once again with my latest completed project, this time the 1/48 Hasegawa A-7E Corsair II in VA-86 Sidewinders markings circa 1978 aboard the USS Nimitz. I have always been attracted to this scheme ever since seeing it in the movie "The Final Countdown". Really love the huge orange diamond on the spine aft of the cockpit. Used the Aires cockpit on this, and the fit is pretty much perfect. Highly recommended for this kit. Also used the Meng Short Range Missiles set for the Sidewinders, Hasegawa Weapons Set A for the mk. 82s, and Hasegawa Weapons Set C for the Shrikes. Decals are from AeroMaster Colorful Corsairs sheet. These performed quite well, although an error in the instructions had me incorrectly plate the large roundel on the wing and smaller one on the fuselage. Good thing there were two sets of these on the sheet so I was able to fix the issue once I realized they were backwards. The kit is quite nice, and fit is pretty good. It takes a lot of work to make the intake seamless since basically you have 4 parts and multiple seams coming together in that area to take care of. But overall it was a pleasurable build that took me just over a month to complete. Kit: 1/48 Hasegawa A-7E Corsair II P12 Decals: AeroMaster Colorful Corsairs 45-587 Aftermarket: Aires Cockpit Set, Meng US Short Range A2A Missiles Set, and Hasegawa Weapons Sets A and C. Paints: Gunze Mr. Surfacer Black 1500 (primer base), Tamiya Liquid White Primer (for marble coat), Gunze Aqueous H51 FS16440 Light Gull Gray, Mr Paint MRP-135 FS17875 Insignia White and MRP-232 FS12197 International Orange, Tamiya Rubber Black, Clear Red, Clear Blue, and Smoke, and Alclad II Gloss Black Primer, Airframe Aluminum and Burnt Iron. Future Gloss coat for decals and Future+Tamiya XF-21 Flat Base 6:1 ratio for final matte coat. Mig Ammo Deep Gray panel wash. Now on to the pics!

Night Owl Models
Thats one of the best A-7s I have seen your little touches of shading down the decals and unit colors very nice touch. Your post shading and demarcation line along the fuselage is at perfect scale. Ill have to check out your other builds.

Billabob
Nice SLUF! a couple of questions for you. The yellow stripes on the mark 82s. Are they decals or painted on? If painted what did you do to create the masks? Also did you simulate the thermal protection on the bomb bodies? I am working on an A-7E from my last fleet squadron and don't want to use the decals for the bombs. Alan
